Chapter 13 - Nat
I could smell them on the first day of Year 8. I had a good and undisturbed life until then. I walked to school with Matt and we met with the others on the High Street, like every normal day in Year 7.
We were sitting on our bench, as we watched the newbies walk past, when I smelled a shifter. But the smell was so strong, there had to be two. And there were.
Two boys who were our age were walking through the gates and every girl was dropping at their feet. They drooled, nearly literally, when either of them even looked at them. And they were actually enjoying it. One of them had brown hair, the other had blond, but other than that, they were totally identical. Right to their deep blue eyes.
Sure, they looked good, but girls only like shifters that much. I knew that, at least. They sat at a bench, and in girly manner, any girls who passed them giggled. I tore a bit of paper from my notebook as Mel continued to stare at them, and i wrote on it.
'Meet me in front of locker number 426, now. Both of you. I know what you are.'
I said bye to the group and went into the building. I passed them and dropped the letter into their laps. They sniffed after me, and opened the letter. I stopped in front of my locker and they were right on cue.
"How would you?" they both asked at the same time. That was kind of creepy, coming from twins...
"Take a sniff, I'm not stupid." I said. When they looked confused, I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "Girls falling at your feet, your smell, your confidence. And your eyes." I said when I noticed their eyes turning green, which was natural when your eyes were blue, turning yellow. They looked at each other, shook their heads and when they looked at me again, their eyes were changing back to normal.
"Explain. Now." the blond one said as he nearly growled.
"I guess you went through the wolf already... Also shifter." I said quietly as I pointed to myself. They shared a look and then looked at me again. "How and why did you move?" I got onto the important part.
"We were made to. It's a long story. We moved here with our mum and dad. They saved us from people who thought we were freaks and we had to run. We got here." the brown haired one said.
"Are your parents like you?" I asked them. They laughed.
"Obviously. They couldn't be anything else, could they."
"Actually, they could be just carriers. Like my mum. My brother and I are fully, you know, but my mum only carries the gene." I said when they stopped laughing. They nodded.
"That's what we meant." they replied. I just shook my head and looked up.
"Hey, why aren't you like the rest of them?" the blond twin asked me. I looked at him from head to toe and then his face again.
"I don't fangirl... And you could be enemies for all I know. Anyway, I've found The One. You need to look for her now. I mean your ones." I said as I went around them, but the blond haired one pulled me back.
"What's your name?" he asked. Okay, I admit it. They looked better than most of the other boys. I said most!
"Nat. What about you two?" he looked into my eyes and I saw how deep blue his eyes really were.
"Ed. And this is my brother Fred." the blonde haired boy said. When Fred still didn't let go of me, I pulled an eyebrow up and I was still strong enough to pull my arm from his grasp. He looked at me, a bit amazed and I just smiled. I walked to my form, and the new school year began.
