BUSANI

Never did the thought of Maya falling pregnant cross me at all. It shows that we were careless, I was careless because I should have known better and protected her. I was caught up in the excitement of being with her and enjoying my woman and we still need to do more of that before we can think of starting a family. Maya still has to start her business and getting pregnant will just ruin her plans and I don’t want that at all. I am not in a hurry to have children because that decision is all going to be on my woman when she is ready because she is the one who gets to carry the child.

Maya was so scared because she thought she might be pregnant but when the doctor told us that she wasn’t, the relief on our faces was evident and we promised ourselves that we are happy that we are not pregnant. It was a wake-up call. I needed to be careful and not just focus on my happy ending. She decided that she will be on birth control until we decide that we are ready to start a family. Now that she is protected, we have nothing to worry about.

“Boo” I grin like an idiot because since she woke up today, I have been called by my pet name and I love it. I’ve never had one so this means everything to me.
“My love”
“When are you going to Joburg?” We are on our way back home from the doctor’s office. I asked dad and auntie to not be home when I tell Maya about her biological family since we haven’t talked about it. I don’t know how she is going to react but she needs to know the truth while it’s still early.

I’m planning a surprise for her later tonight at my house and I hope she is going to love it.
“I thought you’re coming with me, what changed?”
“Mbali and Delui are working for the rest of the week. I think it’s better if I stay and I’ll get to bond with your aunt and maybe she knows amazing places where we can find furniture that will compliment both of us. She knows you better than me and she knows what you like. I think she’s going to be of great help.”
“Are you sure, love?”
“I am boo.”
“That’s fine but if you change your mind, you can always fly. Joe will bring you to me.”
“Nah, I wouldn’t want to distract you.”

A message comes through. “Love, please read that for me.”
“You want me to touch your phone?”
“I mean you already touch the most private thing in my body and put it….”
I put my hands over his mouth, shutting him up because he is making me shy. He chuckles.
“Can you please not say that?”
“It’s just the two of us, love. No one will hear.”
“You’re an idiot!” We laughed.
“You love this idiot very much”
“Of course I do. You’re everything to me. I hope you know that” She links our hands.
“I do my love. Thank you for choosing me, thank you for loving me.”
“Always and forever.”

Something crosses her mind but she doesn’t tell me what it is. I don’t ask her because maybe she’s not ready to share or ask me yet.
“The message, love. What does it say?” She takes my phone.
“It’s your brother. He says that he is at home, where are you” Why id fool at home when he’s supposed to be helping others.
“We are almost at home, we’ll see him. Love, I wanted us to talk about something serious when we arrived at home but that would have to wait because my brother is there.”
“What else can we talk about? I’m not pregnant, we’re using birth control now and you also took the health test while I was there and still sent me your results so what else could it be about?.”

I take a deep breath, the gate opens then we drive in. Lu’s car is parked. I knew he came with her. He couldn’t wait. “It’s about the woman you saw. She is your sister.”
Her face turns pale. “Are you serious?”
“I am, we will talk when they leave.”
I step out, go to her side and open the door for her. I pull her to my arms and hold her.
“Can we talk about this now? I don’t think I can wait any longer. I need to know.” She whispered.
“I know, my love. I will tell you everything we found out after they leave. I promise. Give me a kiss”

I kiss her, tongue down her throat and try to take her mind off this thing just for a while. “I love you and you look beautiful.” She blushes.
“Thank you, fix your hard on” I chuckle.
I fix it then take her hand and lead her inside. I hear my brother’s voice and he is excited about something. This fool better not ruin my surprise.
We walk in, Luh is looking at him while he talks. “Hey guys.” They turn and look at us smiling.
“We’ve been waiting for you for ages.” My brother says. Luh is looking at Maya and smiles.
“Hi, I remember you, we saw each other at that restaurant. I’m Lungile Gumede but you can call me Luh. Everyone calls me that.” She pulls Maya into her arms and hugs her. My love returns it with a genuine smile. “I’m sorry, I’m just excited to meet you.”

We just watch them. “I’m Maya. I’m very happy to meet you. You’re beautiful” Luh smiles.
“So are you. I even told my husband that day when you walked in. I could take my eyes off you.” Wait, is Luh crushing on my wife? My brother and I look at each other.
“I remember, you told me that day in the ladies room. Thank you.”
“Hi Maya.” My brother greets her. He hugs her then kisses her cheek. Luh is a little surprised I understand why.
“We brought lunch, It’s set outside in the garden. Can we go and eat so I can get to know my sister in-law better.”
“We’ll join you, I just need to talk to my brother.” I tell Maya.
“Ok, don’t be too long,” She says. I grinned then pecked her lips.

Links her arm to hers then they walk out. We watch them until they disappear.
“Just look how beautiful they are.”
“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with the others?”
“I couldn’t wait for Luh to meet her and she has been asking me since I came back home that night.”’
“I understand and I had wanted her to meet you and Luh before the others, not that they aren’t important but you're my copy so it’s a must.” He nudges me.
“I like that they met before even though it was a brief encounter.”
“And that brief meeting created problems for me.” We laughed. “I hope and pray that they are going to have the connection that we both have and not let anyone come between them because they are going to be sisters for life.”
“They are sisters for life because if God decides to take us before them, they will have each other to depend on.”
“That’s true.”

“How is she since what happened yesterday?”
“She’s better, it’s like being here is healing her in a way. She loves auntie very much and she calls dad baba. I think her inner child that was neglected and not loved is healing slowly but surely. I was going to tell her about her family before you sent the message.”
“Fuck, we ruined that?”
“You did but it’s fine. I guess I’ll tell her after everything.”
“I think you need to postpone what you planned. You can do it the day after tomorrow or when you come back.”
“I think so too because I cannot wait because it’s important plus I have already told her that the woman she saw is her sister.”
“Damn, how did she take it?”
“She was shaken by it and I know she has many questions.”
“Let’s join them so Luh and I can give you space.”
“Thanks bro.”
