BUSANI
The only thing that is in my head right now is Maya. I want to see her, wrap my arms around her while she’s laying on top of me on my chest. As soon as I get in my car, I call my P.A and tell her that I have a family emergency that I need to attend to and my assistants must go ahead and meet with the client. If I were to fly to Joburg, I wouldn’t be able to focus on any work because I would be thinking about Maya and the whole situation about her family.
I drive out the building and take a route that will lead me to my woman. A call comes through while I’m waiting for the light to turn green. My father’s name is flashing on the screen.“Phakathwayo?”
“Busani, ukuphi?” where are you?
“I’m on my way to see someone.”
“Can you pass by here first? I want us to talk about something?”
My father is really tying me down right now. “I promise you it won’t take long.”
“Ok, I’ll see you in thirty minutes.” I hung up then continued to drive.Thirty minutes later I park my car behind my father’s car. My phone has been getting notifications of my woman spending my money. Well I wouldn’t call it spending because those amounts are little. I expected more than that. I walk in the house and it smells amazing. Aunt Lwethu really knows how to cook. I’m going to ask her if I could bring something for Maya and her friends. I’m sure they would love to taste some of her food. I find the siblings in the kitchen, talking and laughing.
“Good afternoon, family. How are you?” I brush my dad’s head, he slaps my hand away then I go and kiss my aunt’s cheek. I love this woman, she’s like a second mother to me.“Hello, baby” She stares at me then smiles. “There’s something different about you. I don’t know what it is but it’s there.”
“He’s in love, that’s the only explanation.” My dad chimes in.
“Oh, now that you mention it, he has that glow. Tell us when we can expect to be introduced to your partner.”I haven’t even sat down and she is already asking me questions. I can’t help it but smile.
“Oh there definitely is someone special in your life. Tell us about them”
“My beautiful aunty, I met the most beautiful woman in the world. I have been seeing her for a while now and I can say whole heartedly that I am in love. I love her and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. If it was up to me, I would marry her tomorrow and give her our last name.”
“Busani, you wouldn’t do that to me. It has been a very long time since we had a wedding in this family and since you’re saying there is going to be one then we are going all out. We need to show the whole world our beautiful bride.” She is happy. My dad studies me.“Are you serious about getting married?”
“Auntie knows more than anyone how long I’ve been waiting to meet the love of my life and be happy. Dad, I fell in love with her the first day I saw her. I took a bullet for her and I wouldn’t have done that for anyone. When I saw her again, I knew that it was God, using my ancestors to make sure that I meet my one and only. She’s amazing, auntie. You’re both going to love her when you meet her.”“I haven’t heard you sounding this happy and sure. You look happy and like a man in love. If she’s already making you feel like this now then I know that she’s going to make you happy the rest of her life. What’s her name and when are we sending cows to her family?”
“Her name is Maya and she hasn’t had an easy life. Her story is heartbreaking but she is a strong woman and she pulled through despite the circumstances.”“Are you comfortable sharing it with us?” my auntie asks, turning the heat of the stove down.
“Of course I am. You’re my parents and she’s going to be part of our family soon and be one of your daughters too.” I tell them her story and share the news I received from Kabelo and my brother.
