Drawing Near

The month went by with everyone preparing for the extermination, and soon enough, it was the day before. But, you still heard nothing from Lucifer, even a month later.. and you found yourself drowning in despair everyday. It was a busy day of everyone setting up, and soon it was night, everyone, including you were downstairs sitting in the lobby, Charlie and Vaggie standing in front of everyone.

"I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm proud of everyone one of you and I'm proud of everything that we've accomplished to this day."

Charlie starts to say, everyone smiling warmly at her at her sweet words, Vaggie and Charlie's hand intertwining with one another. You sat there in silence, watching as their hands intertwined, a small frown coming across your face, 'that could have been me and Lucifer..' you thought, putting your hands on your cheeks while your elbows leaned against your knees.

"Tomorrow is extermination day, the day where the angels come down to try to hurt us— kill us. But, I know with our strength combined, we can defend this hotel, each other.. I believe in every one of us."

Charlie said with a smile, glancing over towards Vaggie as Vaggie smiled in return, nodding her head in agreement.

"We can't allow ourselves to get distracted, so everyone do your best tomorrow, don't let those angels win."

Vaggie said with determination, everyone cheering and clapping with excitement and determination. Everyone got up and walked out of the lobby to do their own thing while you just sat on the couch, hugging your knees and looking down at the ground with sadness.

Husk had noticed your attitude throughout the month, and every day it would get worse and his concern slowly growing. He could see you loosing yourself, your cheerfulness disappearing into despair.

He gently approached you, sitting down next to you with a beer in his hand, taking a sip of it before setting it down on the side.

"I've seen how you've been acting this month, it's not like you."

Husk began to say, leaning his arm on his knee as he glanced over at you. He still had a cold look on his face, but there was a hint of concern in it, it was rare. You stayed quiet as Husk spoke, hugging your knees with your chin against the top of them.

"I haven't really noticed it."

You say quietly, staring down at the ground with a soft but saddened look on your face, closing your eyes slowly. Husk looked at you with a look of sympathy, a gentle sigh leaving his lips.

"Really? Everyone in the hotel has noticed it but you. You haven't been yourself.. something's clearly been on your mind."

Husk says as he reaches over and grabs his beer, taking another drink out of the bottle. You let out a sigh of frustration, your hands tightening against your knees.

"I'm fine, Husk.. there's no need for you to worry about me."

You say as you slowly raise your head up, taking a deep breath and slowly opening your eyes, staring down at the ground.

"It's.. not important anyway."

You add on in a soft tone, rubbing your eyes a bit with tiredness. Husk could see the dark circles under your eyes and could tell you haven't been sleeping right. He stays quiet for a moment before speaking up again.

"Why don't you come to the bar and have a drink. It might make you feel better."

Husk suggested, raising his eye brow slightly as he looked down at you, seeing for a reaction. You glance over at Husk, rubbing the back of your neck a bit.

"I don't drink.. I've never have. I'm not really a fan."

You say as you look away, moving a strand of hair behind your ear. Husk chuckles deeply before standing up, taking another sip of his beer before looking back down at you.
