Sure, at least Atsumu left you alone after that school year, but so did the setter that you started to fall for.
You and Oikawa did go on more dates during the rest of that school year - his final year, before he up and left you.
The movies, arcade, bowling, the amusement park - you name it and he took you there. You even played beach volleyball with Oikawa and his best friends, Iwaizumi, Mattsun, and Makki.
Ice skating was funny because he just kept stumbling on ice. It was one of the few things he wasn't good or smooth at. So after watching you float around and do twirls and spins that you learned when taking lessons as a child, he said he was captivated, mesmerized like it was the first time meeting you again.
Although he said all the rights things, spent all that time with you - he never asked you to be his girlfriend. Maybe that way it was easier for him to leave - at least that's what you've been telling yourself for the past 5 years.
After his graduation in March 2013, he blind-sighted you with his plans - to follow Jose Blanco to Argentina and pursue his volleyball career there. When he broke the news, he said that it was definite and he was sorry for not telling you sooner. He could barely look you in the eye and to be fair, you couldn't look at him either. You were staring down at your cup of coffee trying to keep your tears in. It didn't help that he decided to tell you at your favorite cafe, Onibus Cafe. He probably thought it would soften the blow, but if anything it made you loathe the cafe. You hadn't returned to that cafe ever since. Not even the Tokyo branches near your university.
From the outside looking in, you understood why he chose to go to Argentina. It would've been hard to get recognition since he'd never been invited to any All-Japan Youth Training Camps or even made it to nationals - not to mention there's Atsumu and Kageyama who already achieved all those things. They were an obstacle for him. He prioritized his career and you understood how important it was for him, but still, it hurt.
For the past few years you've been ruminating about this situation. You couldn't even call it a relationship, you were never official.
Did he just use you to pass time? Did he ever really have feelings for you? What was the point of getting to know you at all? And of course, you wondered what could've been if he stayed in Japan.
Thanks to him, you've never had a boyfriend. You've dated a couple of guys and had a few first dates, but you've never made it official with anyone and never stayed too long. You feel bad, but at least you're the one leaving, not the one that's being abandoned.
