Korvin kept his head down and kept moving, trying to make himself appear as unassuming as possible as he made his way through the hallway.
As one of the few rogues attending this school, which was largely dominated by packs, he was all too familiar with the whispers and side glances that followed him.
"That's him. I heard he was there when Leader Lowell got kidnapped—"
"—Didn't even put up a fight. Rogues have no loyalty to packs—"
"—Apparently, those kidnappers were actually looking for him—"
"What?! So he was using Leader Lowell as a shield?!"
"—Don't know what he sees in him, honestly. He's not even that strong—"
"—White hair stands out too much. He's weak in stealth—"
Hurtful words rolled off his back.
Korvin was used to this treatment, though it has gotten a lot better ever since he befriended the Meute de Loup Pack.
Before, there was more violence in his day-to-day life.
"Well look who it is?"
A tall figure stood in front of him.
"I heard you were hanging around the Meute de Loupes during their Moon Run. Shouldn't you be off somewhere in the wild?"
Brayden Ryker blocked his path and smirked at him in a very asshole-like way. He was flanked by a few friends, his own personal entourage, who followed him like baby ducks.
"What do you want, Ryker?"
The smirk widened.
Brayden's entourage moved closer, trying to intimidate him.
"I just felt like you needed a reminder of your place in this school, Oiseau," Brayden smiled meanly, his voice dripping with disdain. "Rogues like you aren't worthy of associating with Leader Lowell."
Korvin felt his pulse quicken. He knew he didn't belong to any pack, but he'd always felt welcome among Fenris and the others. "I'm not bothering anyone," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady.
Brayden took another step forward, invading Korvin's space. "Oh, but you are. You think you can just stroll into our territory and not face the consequences?"
Just then, Noah appeared down the hall, his presence immediately commanding attention. His copper-red hair caught the light, and for a moment, Korvin felt... a strange flicker of relief.
But Brayden's eyes lit up with ill intent.
"Hey, Brink!" Brayden cheerfully called out. "How's it going, freak? I heard Leader Lowell finally turned you down! Looks like you're not so high and mighty anymore, huh? Bet that stings real bad." The corners of his lips showed a contemptuous smile. "Must be rough when you think you're all that. Leader Lowell really put you in your place, you pathetic little freak."
The cringe lines that should have stayed in a poorly written soap opera somehow managed to appear in the middle of passing period.
It was so cringy that it left Korvin speechless.
Several people passing the hallway gave Brayden judgment side-eyes, most likely wondering if he was facing some sort of life crisis.
In response to Brayden's... taunt, Noah merely raised his eyes to look at him, and a trace of emotion that was difficult to describe in words flashed across his eyes. It was only for a moment, and soon it disappeared.
