As they left the restaurant, the cool evening air of the night settled over Menagerie.
Ghira headed back toward his office, his shoulders slightly hunched as if already feeling the weight of the paperwork waiting for him. Gabriel and Kali waved him off, sharing a knowing smile.
“Don’t stay up too late, Ghira,” Kali called out teasingly. “You need your rest, too.”
“I’ll be fine,” Ghira responded with a wave, though his tone hinted at the long night ahead.
As Ghira disappear walking down the path toward his office, Gabriel and Kali found themselves lingering Instead of heading straight belldonna home, they decided to take a walk, letting the cool breeze guide them through the quiet streets of the village. The broken moon hung low in the sky, casting a gentle, silvery light over the path, illuminating their way.
The two walked side by side, their pace unhurried. There was a comfortable silence between them, one that spoke of years of familiarity. Kali’s footsteps were light, almost graceful, while Gabriel’s were steady and firm, like he was always ready for anything. They had walked this path countless times before, but tonight, it felt different more peaceful, almost nostalgic.
Kali glanced at Gabriel out of the corner of her eye, studying his expression.
“It’s been a while since we had a chance to do this,” she said softly, breaking the silence. “Just walk and talk.”
Gabriel nodded, his eyes fixed on the path ahead. “Yeah, it has. Things have been busy.”
He paused, then added, “It’s nice, though. Being able to slow down, even for a bit.”
Kali smiled, a hint of sadness in her eyes. “It reminds me of when i used to take Blake for walks around here. She’d always run ahead, exploring everything, but she’d always come running back to make sure i still with her.”
Gabriel’s lips curved into a small smile at the memory. “She was always like that. Independent, but never too far from the people she cared about.”
Kali’s smile softened, and she looked up at the sky, her eyes reflecting the starlight. “I miss those days. Things seemed so much simpler then. Before everything got so complicated.”
Gabriel didn’t respond immediately. He understood what she meant. Life had changed for all of them The White Fang the struggles for Faunus rights, the conflicts that seemed to grow darker and more complex each day. But amidst all that, there were still these moments small, precious pockets of peace that reminded them why they fought in the first place.
“She’ll come back,” Gabriel said quietly, his voice filled with quiet determination. “Blake she find her way back. I’ll make sure of it.”
Kali glanced at him, her eyes warm with gratitude. “You always have so much faith in her.”
“It’s not just faith,” Gabriel replied, his gaze turning serious. “It’s a promise. To her to you to Ghira i do whatever it takes to keep her safe, to bring her home even if she doesn’t see it right now.”
Kali’s eyes glistened, and she reached out, gently placing a hand on Gabriel’s arm. “Thank you, Gabriel for being there for her and for us we always thought of you as part of our family, you know that, right?”
Gabriel looked at her, his expression softening. “I know and I’m grateful for that same eith my mom.”
They continued walking, the path of the street through the village, leading them past quiet homes and open fields the silence between them was enough a shared understanding, a quiet acknowledgment of the burdens they all carried and the hope that kept them moving forward Kali stopped, turning to face Gabriel.
