The week progressed, and Tatsuya found himself growing more comfortable with Mikano by his side. Their conversations deepened, moving from light banter to sharing their dreams and aspirations. Each day, he found himself looking forward to their lunch breaks, where the world outside faded away, and it was just the two of them, laughing and discussing everything from their favourite anime to the pressures of school.
One afternoon, as they were finishing lunch, Mikano's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I need your help with something, Tatsuya!" she exclaimed, leaning closer, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Sure! What do you need?" he asked, intrigued.
"I'm working on a new cosplay for the upcoming anime festival, and I really want it to be special. I could use your advice on some of the designs!" Her enthusiasm was infectious, and Tatsuya felt a thrill of anticipation.
"What character are you thinking of?" he asked, genuinely curious.
"It's from a new series called Dusk Horizon—a fierce warrior with an intricate armour design. I've been sketching some ideas, but I want to bring it to life in a way that captures the character's spirit."
Tatsuya's mind whirred with possibilities. He had always loved the art of creation, whether through manga or the various DIY projects he dabbled in at home. "I'd love to help! Let's meet up at my place after school so we can brainstorm."
Mikano beamed, her smile lighting up the room. "Really? You'd do that for me?"
"Of course! I might not be a master designer, but I'm sure we can come up with something amazing together."
After school, Tatsuya rushed home, a sense of excitement building within him. He quickly tidied up his apartment, making sure everything was in order. When Mikano arrived, he couldn't help but feel a flutter in his stomach at the thought of spending more time with her.
"Wow, your place is nice!" she said, glancing around appreciatively.
"Thanks! My parents wanted it to feel... welcoming, I guess." Tatsuya felt a hint of embarrassment. The spacious apartment often felt too big for just him.
As they settled at the dining table, Mikano laid out her sketches, each one more intricate than the last. Tatsuya leaned in, examining the details. "These are really good! You've captured the essence of the character perfectly."
"Thanks! But I want to take it to the next level. That's where you come in." She flashed him a playful grin, and Tatsuya felt his heart race.
They began discussing fabrics, colours, and designs, the conversation flowing easily. Tatsuya's fingers traced the sketches as he offered suggestions, the excitement of creation wrapping around him like a warm blanket. With every idea they shared, he felt a deeper connection forming between them—a bond that felt both exhilarating and terrifying.
"I really enjoy this," he admitted, glancing at her. "Working together like this. It's... different from how I usually spend my time."
Mikano looked up, her expression softening. "I feel the same way. It's nice to have someone to share this passion with."
Tatsuya's heart raced as their eyes met. He felt a warmth spreading through him, something he hadn't experienced before—a mix of admiration and a budding affection that made his palms sweat. He quickly looked down, afraid she might see the depth of his feelings.
"What if we added some metallic accents to the armour?" he suggested, trying to steer the conversation back to the project.
"That's a great idea!" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm invigorating. "You're really good at this!"
