The gentle hum of morning filled the Kushida household as sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the cosy living room. Mikasa sat cross-legged on the couch, a sketchbook balanced on her lap, her pencil moving swiftly across the page. She had always loved art, but now it felt different; the shapes and colours seemed to dance as she drew, inspired by the feelings swirling within her heart.
Aiko strolled into the room, her hair still damp from the shower, a playful smile on her lips. "What are you working on, Mikasa?" she asked, leaning over to peek at the sketch.
Mikasa's cheeks flushed a light pink, but she couldn't hide her grin. "Just something for you," she replied, turning the page to reveal a beautifully detailed drawing of Aiko in a flowing cosplay outfit, complete with intricate accessories.
Aiko's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Wow, you're amazing! I can't wait to wear it for the next convention!" She plopped down beside Mikasa, their knees touching. The contact sent a rush of warmth through Mikasa, and she bit her lip to suppress her smile.
"I'm glad you like it," Mikasa said, glancing sideways at Aiko. It still felt surreal to think about how they had gone from friends to this—dating and sharing a deep connection. Just a few months ago, their relationship was built on playful banter and shared laughs. Now, it blossomed into something more profound, something that made Mikasa's heart race.
As they exchanged flirty glances, Aiko leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "So, what's the plan for today? I was thinking we could go shopping for some new cosplay supplies. You know, the ones I said I wanted for that new character?"
Mikasa felt a flutter of excitement at the thought. "That sounds perfect! But... can we also stop by that café you like? I need to try that new dessert you keep raving about."
Aiko beamed. "Deal! But only if you promise to let me take a picture of you with it. I want to post it on my Cosplaygram."
Mikasa rolled her eyes playfully. "Fine, but only if you promise not to embarrass me in front of everyone."
"I make no promises!" Aiko laughed, her voice bright and infectious.
The two girls gathered their things, a sense of ease between them. As they headed out, Mikasa couldn't help but feel grateful for how much had changed in her life. The insecurities and doubts that once clouded her mind had begun to fade, replaced by the vibrant colours of love and acceptance.
Later that afternoon, after a whirlwind shopping trip filled with laughter and playful teasing, they found themselves at the café, nestled in a cosy corner with their desserts. Mikasa savoured the moment, stealing glances at Aiko as she eagerly dug into her treat.
"Seriously, you have to try this!" Aiko said, holding out a spoonful of her dessert. Mikasa leaned in, taking a bite, and her eyes widened with delight.
"Oh my gosh, that's amazing!" she exclaimed, grinning widely.
Just then, Aiko's expression turned thoughtful. "You know, Mikasa, I really appreciate you being so supportive of me. It's nice to have someone who understands."
Mikasa felt a warmth spread in her chest. "Of course! I want to be there for you, just like you are for me. We're a team, right?"
"Right!" Aiko replied, her eyes sparkling. "And I think we make a pretty great one."
Mikasa chuckled, but then a hint of seriousness crept into her voice. "But... I also want to make sure we don't lose ourselves in the relationship. I mean, I care about you a lot, but I also want to keep doing what I love—art, cosplay... everything."
Aiko reached across the table, her fingers brushing against Mikasa's hand. "I feel the same way. I don't want us to lose who we are. We can support each other and still be our own people."
Mikasa nodded, feeling a wave of relief. It was comforting to know that they were on the same page. "Then let's make a pact," she suggested, a playful glint in her eyes. "No losing ourselves in this, okay?"
"Deal!" Aiko said, sealing their pact with a playful pinkie swear.
As they shared more laughter and dessert, the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them in their little bubble of happiness. It was a new beginning, and Mikasa couldn't wait to see where their journey would lead them.
As they finished up and headed back out into the bustling streets of Tokyo, Mikasa felt a sense of hope and excitement. Whatever challenges lay ahead, she knew they would face them together, hand in hand.
