It feels good to be under me.

Bible sat in the conference room, reviewing the candidates' profiles as he prepared for the next interview. His mind, however, kept drifting to the events of the previous night. He hadn't expected the evening to unfold as it did, but the memory brought a small smirk to his face.

Then the door opened, and in walked the next candidate. Bible’s heart skipped as he looked up to see Jeff standing there, looking both determined and slightly nervous. Their eyes met for a fleeting second, a spark of recognition and surprise flashing between them. Bible kept his composure, giving only a small, knowing smirk as Jeff took his seat in front of the panel.

As the interview progressed, Bible observed Jeff carefully, listening to his responses and admiring his poise. Despite their recent encounter, Jeff was professional, focused, and insightful in his answers. Bible couldn't help but feel a sense of pride watching him. But he kept his expression neutral, observing as the others took notes and asked questions.

When Jeff left the room, Bible noticed his fellow executives exchanging opinions, discussing the candidates they'd seen so far. Bible knew he had to say something; he felt an inexplicable pull to advocate for Jeff. Clearing his throat, he leaned forward, drawing the panel’s attention.

"I believe Jeff is a strong choice for the position," he stated, his voice steady. "He has the skills we’re looking for, and his approach to problem-solving is exactly what we need."

The room fell silent as the others considered his words. "Are you sure?" one of them asked, raising an eyebrow. "There are a few others with more direct experience."

Bible didn’t waver. "Sometimes potential and adaptability are more valuable than experience alone. I’m confident he’d be a good fit."

A few nodded thoughtfully, while others exchanged uncertain glances. Bible maintained his confident demeanor, silently hoping his recommendation would tip the scales in Jeff’s favor.

As the meeting wrapped up, Bible allowed himself one last glance at the door through which Jeff had exited. His smirk returned, this time with a sense of anticipation. There was something about Jeff that made him certain this wasn’t the end of their story—only the beginning.

Jeff arrived early on his first day, nerves and excitement coursing through him in equal measure. The modern office building gleamed in the morning sunlight, a reminder of the fresh start he had been looking for. He adjusted his tie as he walked through the revolving doors, reminding himself to focus. This was a chance to prove himself.

After signing in at the reception, he was escorted to a sleek conference room where he would be introduced to his team. He wasn’t sure why, but a faint sense of unease prickled at the back of his mind.

The door opened, and he stepped inside. His heart stopped for a second. Bible was there, seated among the senior executives at the long table. His relaxed posture and sharp suit screamed authority. And then there was the smirk. That damn smirk.

“Ah, our new recruit,” Bible said, his voice calm and measured. “Everyone, meet Jeff. He’ll be joining us as the Marketing Project Coordinator.”

Jeff’s breath caught, but he forced himself to stay composed. He nodded at the others, who offered polite smiles, but his attention was locked on Bible.

“Welcome, Jeff,” Bible continued, standing to extend a hand. His grip was firm, lingering just a second too long. “You’ll be reporting directly to me. I’ll make sure you get... settled.”

Jeff couldn’t ignore the double meaning in his tone, nor the glint in his eyes. He pulled his hand back and gave a professional nod. “Thank you, sir.”

After the introductions, Bible gestured for Jeff to follow him. The walk down the hall felt longer than it should, with Bible leading the way, his commanding presence impossible to ignore. They stopped outside a door.

“This will be your office,” Bible said, opening the door to reveal a sleek, minimalist space. “I’ve made sure it’s equipped with everything you’ll need.”

Jeff stepped inside, taking in the large desk, comfortable seating area, and impressive view. “It’s... great. Thank you.”

Bible leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. “Don’t mention it. Consider it a perk of working under me.”

Jeff turned to face him, catching the subtle emphasis on the last two words. The air between them thickened, unspoken tension simmering beneath the surface.

“If there’s anything else you need, let me know,” Bible added, his voice dipping slightly.

Jeff cleared his throat. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

Bible pushed off the doorframe and straightened his jacket. “Good. Let’s get you started. Your first task is in the folder on your desk. I’ll expect updates by the end of the day.”

“Understood,” Jeff replied, his voice steady despite the flutter in his chest.

As Bible turned to leave, he paused at the door. “Oh, and Jeff?”

“Yes?”

Bible smirked, his eyes locking onto Jeff’s. “Don’t disappoint me.”

Jeff’s pulse quickened as Bible walked away, leaving behind an unmistakable charge in the air. He sat at his desk, opening the folder to distract himself, but his mind kept drifting back to the look in Bible’s eyes, the way his voice had softened just enough to make it feel personal.

Hours passed, and Jeff immersed himself in his work. Yet, every time the door opened or footsteps approached, he found himself glancing up, half-expecting Bible to appear. When lunch rolled around, he debated stepping out, but a knock at the door interrupted his thoughts.

Bible stepped inside, a faint smile on his lips. “Working through lunch already? Impressive.”

“I wanted to make a good impression,” Jeff replied, forcing a light tone.

Bible chuckled softly. “You’re doing fine, Jeff. Just don’t overwork yourself. We’ve got a long road ahead.”

And with that, he left again, leaving Jeff to wonder what exactly lay on that road—and how much of it would involve Bible.
