Jeff checked his watch as he leaned against his car in the school parking lot. The week had been exhausting, but productive. He felt good about his progress at work, though Bible's constant smirks during meetings still lingered in his mind.

Was Bible impressed? Or just being... Bible?

The chatter of children snapped him back to the present. Izzy would be out any moment, and he couldn't wait to see her. But his thoughts screeched to a halt when his eyes landed on an all-too-familiar figure across the lot. Bible.

Bible stood casually, his hands in his pockets, his commanding presence impossible to ignore. Beside him was a young girl, her hand clasped in his. She was laughing about something, her curly hair bouncing as she gestured animatedly.

Jeff's stomach churned.

Is that... his daughter?

Before he could process the thought, Izzy came barreling toward him, her voice ringing out. "Daddy!" She threw her arms around his waist, her smile brightening his day instantly.

"Hey, munchkin," Jeff said, ruffling her hair as he crouched to greet her.

But his moment of calm didn't last long. Bible's eyes found his, and Jeff froze under the weight of his smirk. The little girl at Bible's side tugged at his hand as they walked over.

"Well, what do we have here?" Bible said, his tone rich with amusement.

Jeff stood, straightening his shoulders. "Looks like we both had the same idea," he replied, keeping his voice steady. His eyes flicked to the girl beside Bible, curiosity getting the better of him.

"Your daughter?" Bible asked, gesturing toward Izzy.

"Yes," Jeff replied. "isabelle."

Bible raised a brow, the corner of his mouth lifting in a familiar, teasing smirk. "Early marriage, huh?"

Jeff's jaw tightened. "No," he said firmly. "I'm a single father."

The smirk faltered for a split second, replaced by something unreadable in Bible's expression. Then it was back, sharper this time. "Single," he repeated, drawing out the word as if testing how it felt.

Jeff's brows furrowed. Why had he said that? He shook off the thought and motioned toward the girl. "And her? Your daughter?"

Bible chuckled, low and smooth. "My niece."

Jeff blinked, taken aback. "Your niece?"

Bible nodded, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Emma."

Jeff crouched slightly to meet Emma's wide-eyed gaze. "Hi, Emma. I'm Jeff, and this is Isabelle."

Emma's face lit up. "Izzy? You sit by the window in class, right?"

Izzy gasped. "You're Emma? We play tag at recess!"

The two girls immediately launched into an animated conversation, their excitement infectious. Jeff straightened, catching Bible's gaze again.

"So," Jeff began, his tone dry, "you're full of surprises, aren't you?"

Bible smirked, his eyes gleaming. "Life's more fun that way, don't you think?"

Jeff rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "Weirdo."

Bible's low chuckle sent a shiver down Jeff's spine. "Careful, Jeff. I might start thinking you enjoy calling me that."

Jeff's cheeks warmed, but he ignored the comment, focusing on the two girls who were now planning their next playdate.

"Looks like we'll be seeing more of each other," Bible said, his voice light but laced with something Jeff couldn't quite place.
