The clock glowed 1:37 AM. The soft patter of rain outside mixed with the steady rhythm of Jeff's breath. He was lying on his back, staring at the ceiling, his mind replaying the evening in a blur of laughter, shared glances, and the way Bible's hand had lingered on his a second too long.He turned his head slightly, eyes settling on Bible, who was resting beside him. The warmth between them was subtle, yet undeniable. Jeff thought Bible had already fallen asleep until he heard a quiet sigh.
"Jeff," Bible's voice was low, almost hesitant.
Jeff shifted, propping himself up on an elbow. "Hmm?"
Bible's gaze remained fixed on the ceiling, his fingers twitching against the sheets. He took a breath before speaking, his voice just above a whisper. "There's something I've been meaning to say." He turned his head, his dark eyes meeting Jeff's. "I want this to be more than... whatever we've been doing. I want you to know that you're not just someone I enjoy spending time with." He paused, his expression softening. "You're the person I think about all the time. And I want you to be mine."
Jeff's heart clenched. He hadn't expected this. His mind raced, emotions clashing inside him. "Bible... are you sure?" His voice was shaky, betraying the fear of hope.
Bible's hand reached up, brushing a strand of hair from Jeff's forehead. "I've never been more sure of anything."
A wave of warmth rushed over Jeff. He swallowed the lump in his throat, his eyes glistening. "lets sleep."
The first light of dawn filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. Bible woke slowly, the scent of coffee and something sweet wafting through the air. He blinked, taking in the calm of Jeff's home - the faint sound of dishes clinking, soft footsteps, and the gentle hum of morning routines.
Sliding out of bed, he made his way to the kitchen. Jeff stood at the counter, still in his sleepwear, flipping pancakes while Izzy munched on a slice of apple at the table.
Bible smiled. "Good morning."
Jeff glanced back, a soft smile curving his lips. "Morning. Sleep well?"
Bible nodded, his eyes lingering on Jeff a moment longer than necessary. He ruffled Izzy's hair as he passed, earning a giggle. "Morning, Uncle Bible!"
"Morning, princess." Bible grinned and leaned against the counter, watching Jeff finish breakfast.
After they ate, Jeff grabbed Izzy's backpack. "Ready to go, kiddo?"
"Yep!" Izzy chirped.
The three of them walked to the car, the cool morning air refreshing. Bible helped buckle Izzy in, sharing a quick glance with Jeff. The comfortable silence between them said everything they hadn't the night before.
Once Izzy was safely dropped off at school, Jeff turned to Bible as they got back in the car. "We're both off today. Any plans?"
Bible smirked, his eyes glinting mischievously. "How about we spend the day together? Just you and me."
Jeff paused, a smile tugging at his lips. "That sounds... perfect."
The sun streamed through the windshield as Bible leaned back in his seat, eyes fixed on the passing scenery, but his mind was elsewhere. Jeff drove in silence, his fingers lightly gripping the steering wheel, his expression unreadable. The calm of the morning felt fragile, like glass that could shatter with a single word.
Bible's thoughts swirled with doubt. Did I push too far last night? He had confessed his feelings, asked Jeff to be his boyfriend - but Jeff hadn't answered. The silence that followed hung heavy between them now, filling the spaces where easy conversation used to flow.
