Jeff stood at Megan’s front door, his fists clenched tightly at his sides. He felt a storm brewing inside him, a mixture of confusion, anger, and hurt. The door creaked open, revealing Megan standing there with a calm expression, her arms casually crossed over her chest.

“You wanted to talk?” Megan asked, stepping aside to let him in.

Jeff entered, his gaze immediately drawn to the familiar setting of Megan’s living room. But the tension between them was thick, and it felt like everything in the room had changed. He could feel the weight of his own words before he even spoke them.

“Why you want izzy to Call  Mile ‘Dad?’” Jeff’s voice was tight, a quiet edge of frustration underneath. “What the hell is that about?”

Megan didn’t flinch, didn’t even seem surprised by his outburst. She simply sighed and sat on the couch, her hands neatly placed on her lap. “I was wondering when you’d notice.”

Jeff’s confusion deepened. “What do you mean by that?”

“She’s not your biological daughter, Jeff,” Megan said matter-of-factly, her tone void of any emotion that might suggest she was sorry for the revelation. “Izzy is Mile’s.”

Jeff stared at her, feeling the ground shift beneath his feet. “What?

Megan said, her voice flat and uncaring. “She’s Mile’s. We had a one-night stand before  we broke up. I was pregnant when he left for London, and when we reconnected, I told him about Izzy. He wanted to be part of her life. That’s why I asked you to help co-parent.”

Jeff’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of Megan’s dining table, his chest heaving with the weight of her words. “This is a lie,” he spat, his voice shaking. “You can’t seriously expect me to believe this.”

Megan sat across from him, her posture calm, almost too calm. “I’m not lying, Jeff,” she said, her tone firm but devoid of malice. “Izzy is Mile’s daughter. I have the proof, and I’m prepared to go to court to make it official.”

Jeff slammed his fist onto the table, the sharp sound echoing in the room. “Court? What the hell are you talking about? Izzy is my daughter. I’ve been there for her every day of her life! I raised her, Megan. Not Mile. Me!”

“I know, Jeff,” Megan said, her expression unreadable. “But things have changed. Mile wants to be part of Izzy’s life now. And as her biological father, he has rights.”

Jeff laughed bitterly, his eyes flashing with anger. “Rights? He abandoned you, Megan. He left the country and didn’t look back. And now, years later, he decides he wants to play daddy? Over my dead body.”

Megan leaned forward, her voice lowering. “Jeff, I’m not doing this to hurt you. I’m doing what’s best for Izzy.”

“What’s best for Izzy?” Jeff repeated, his voice rising. “Izzy has everything she needs with me! I’m the one who tucks her in at night, who listens to her dreams, who makes her laugh. She doesn’t need Mile!”

Megan’s gaze hardened. “You’re not thinking clearly. Izzy deserves to know her real father. You can still be in her life, Jeff. But this is happening.”

Jeff stood abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. “No. No, it’s not. I won’t let you take her from me, Megan. I’ll fight you every step of the way.”

Megan rose as well, her expression resolute. “If that’s what you want, Jeff, then fine. But you’re only making this harder on yourself—and on Izzy.”

Jeff’s fists clenched at his sides as he glared at her. “You’ve made your choice, Megan. Don’t think for a second that I’m going to roll over and let this happen. Izzy is my daughter. She always will be.”
