Yeosang and Wooyoung strolled through the lively streets of Namhae, the gentle sound of waves crashing against the shore blending with the chatter of other diners. Their search for a late-night restaurant had finally paid off when they discovered a cozy little place adorned with colorful lanterns. They stepped inside, the rich aroma of grilled fish and spicy stews wafting through the air, instantly igniting their appetites.
As they settled at a small table near the window, a waitress approached them with a bright smile. She was stunning, with long dark hair that framed her face perfectly and a friendly demeanor that made them feel welcome. "Welcome! What can I get for you two tonight?" she asked, pen poised above her notepad.
Wooyoung wasted no time, flashing his trademark charm. "Hey there! What do you recommend?"
The waitress's smile widened. "Well, our grilled mackerel is a must-try, and our kimchi jjigae is very popular! What would you like?"
Yeosang sat quietly, letting Wooyoung lead the conversation. He appreciated his friend's ability to charm just about anyone, but a part of him felt distant, lost in his own thoughts. As Wooyoung flirted and joked, Yeosang offered polite smiles but didn't engage much. He was still processing everything that had happened with San, and the weight of it pressed heavily on his chest.
After they placed their orders, the waitress leaned against their table, her curiosity evident. "So, what brings you to Namhae, i never saw you two here youre visiters right?" she asked, looking at them with genuine interest.
"We are from Seoul, We visited a friend," Wooyoung replied, his eyes sparkling. "Just needed a break from the city. It's beautiful here."
The waitress nodded, clearly interested. "That's great! Are you here for long?"
"Just today sadly we gotta go back," Wooyoung said with a grin.
The waitress continued to engage with them, and as she did, Yeosang felt the tension in his heart lessen momentarily. But that peace shattered when she mentioned, "You know, my fiancé is actually studying in Seoul too. Maybe you know him?"
Both Yeosang and Wooyoung's eyes widened in shock. He felt a sudden tightening in his chest. "Oh really? Who is it?" Wooyoung asked, his curiosity piqued.
"His name is Choi San," she replied, her face lighting up as she spoke.
Yeosang's heart plummeted at the sound of San's name, a wave of hurt crashing over him. He felt a pang of disbelief and disappointment wash over him, but he quickly masked his emotions, trying to appear unaffected.
Wooyoung's expression shifted to one of surprise as well. "I didn't know San had a fiancée," he said, turning to Yeosang.
The waitress, still smiling, added, "Yeah, we just got engaged! He's such a wonderful guy, and I'm really proud of him. He's working so hard in Seoul."
Yeosang felt a sharp pain in his chest, and he forced himself to maintain eye contact with Wooyoung, who was still processing the information. The revelation hit Yeosang like a cold wave, and he fought to suppress the emotions threatening to spill over. He had spent so much time wondering what might happen between them, and now it felt like the ground had been pulled out from under him.
"Wow, that's amazing," Wooyoung said, forcing a smile despite the tension in the air. "But arent you too young to marry?"
"Well we are both 25 so not that young. But yeah we will wait until he finishes his study," the waitress replied, her eyes shimmering with affection.
Yeosang sat quietly, feeling increasingly out of place. He glanced at his hands, tracing the lines of his palm as he fought back a swell of emotion. This wasn't how he had imagined things would turn out.
