Ashlee and I got ready at my place. I decided to wear my black skirt, my first skirt, it was my favourite skirt and a cute sleeveless light blue cotton top with my black jacket and flats. Ashlee was similarly dressed, smart casual for a movie and a nice dinner. We didn't know what Amy was planning on wearing but I figured she would look cute and would probably be a little bit more dressed up, it was Amy after all. When we got dropped off at Amy's place her mum said she was in the shower.

"You two girls look really good today."

"Thank you. I hope she's not been too crazy this morning."

"It's OK, I've had experience dealing with a teenager before their first date. Her sister went through a dozen outfits before hers."

"I guess I was lucky I didn't have that many options before my first date."

"Cutie, don't forget how many outfits you went through before you went to see your grandma," Ashlee added with a smirk."

"Ok, I guess I'm just a normal girl too," I said smiling at her.

"Oh, hi Jocelyn, Ashlee," said Amy's sister, Fiona, "nice to see you again. Thanks for going with my sister for this. She's really excited and nervous, having you two there will help her relax, I hope."

"How's your dad handling this?"

"He's doing ok. It's funny he was saying he'd like to meet this boy first if he's going to go to the movies with his daughter. I didn't think he'd say that. Anyway, he relaxed when he knew you were going Joc, I think you impressed him."

"I did? I don't know how."

"I don't know but I think it's because you seem responsible and happy. He seemed scared that Amy would regret being a girl or be very unhappy as a girl. I don't think he ever knew how unhappy she was before. I was worried about her."

"You're a good sister Fi. You probably spent a lot more time with her when she wasn't masking to please your dad. I know I did that, and still masc. things up on occasion for my dad's sake."

"You might be right. She'd do something manly with Dad and then be miserable in her room afterwards for ages. I'm glad she's doing better now."

"Me too. She's a great person and deserves happiness."

Amy came out of the shower to show us what she had decided to wear. She chose a nice dressy dark green top and a cute lighter red skater knee-length skirt with some simple black heels and a black purse to match. She almost went back into her room to pick something else when she saw us, but we quickly got her to stop and said she would look perfect.

"We underdressed a little so you would have the spotlight," I said.

After about half an hour of Amy rushing around, getting ready, trying to keep her calm, and a couple of bouts of self-doubt, we were ready to leave. Amy's mum drove us to the cinema and gave Amy some advice. We were about 10 minutes early, so we had a little time to chat and relax. I let Ashlee take the lead on the dating front, I'd only ever had 1 girlfriend after all. Amy started to look calmer and more collected, and then her date showed up. He was looking quite handsome, well-dressed but casual. He was a few minutes early, so that was a good sign for me. Amy waved at him, and he walked over. I could tell they didn't know what to do when they greeted each other but it wasn't too awkward.

"Lars, this is Jocelyn and her girlfriend Ashlee."

"Nice to meet you both."

"Nice to meet you. I've heard some good things about you from Amy. I don't know what Amy has told you about us."
