There were 2 days left until I began my undercover job at UA: a school for aspiring Heroes. For the past two weeks, I have been moving my stuff from my old apartment to my new one near the school. Giran somehow convinced Zankoku that moving closer to the school instead of traveling a far distance every day would make my cover as a “eager Hero in training” more believable. I also had to be within a certain distance of the school as well in order to enroll. As much as it pained me, a slight excitement filled my chest. I will be surrounded by people my age for once. Well, I'm barely a year older than them all, but who cares? It's close enough.
I lean against the window frame in my new apartment. By all means, it isn't luxurious. It had two bedrooms and an open space living room/kitchen. There was a small dining table for two that sat next to the window. There was also a small bathroom that was in between both bedroom doors. Girian had the second bedroom set up to look like my fake parents lived with me. He hired a woman and man to play my parents when I needed them in the picture, but they won’t be around unless I need them for the day.
It still had a few nooks and crannies that needed refurbished. But it's way better than the previous one I lived in. This apartment was near UA. It was out of Shinjuku, so the relief I felt being away from home made me feel not so trapped and supervised.
It felt a bit off being this far from home, I haven’t really left Shinjuku before. It feels like an out of body experience already. I’ve been taking flights throughout the city to get to know it. I’ve already flown near UA, so I know the route to get there by flight and foot. It isn’t much of a walk either, thankfully. Just a 5 minute walk to the bus and another 5 minute walk after that. I’ve already been able to move my stuff in here also. It wasn’t really hard, though. It was just a bed, a closet of clothing, and a desk with my laptop.
I take a step onto the balcony of my apartment and lean against the rail. The smell in the air starts to give off the sign that it might just rain tonight. I look around me to make sure nobody’s watching before I throw my hoodie over my head, mask over my face, and dive off of the balcony.
I polymorph into a mockingbird as soon as my feet leave the bars, my fall to the ground reversing to a flight. I soar up into the sky above most of the buildings around me and start in the direction of the city I have yet discovered. I’ll fly five miles south and turn back. Easy!
I’ve been keeping my eye out more than normal, being that there are a lot more Heroes here than my hometown. I should get used to it, though. I mean, in a week, I’ll be in a building full of them and getting close and personal with the Heroes that will soon become my teachers.
I bank left and take note of my surroundings. Not anything out of the ordinary in a city like this. There's a few parks scattered around here, as well as some woods here and there. It’s nice to see that not everything was concrete.
After enjoying my time, I finally got back to my apartment an hour later, the sun now setting. I land and polymorph back to my normal self and plop in my seat. I scoot up to my desk and pull out my brand new phone. It was a super old phone, but Zankuko made sure I got it to keep in contact. I feel like it's taking a lot for him to send me away, which surprises me. He's a dumb ass that only worries about his business and is probably upset because he lost one of his “personal dogs.”
I check to see if I've gotten any emails or text and shut the phone off. Bored out of my mind, I decided to see if I could get a uniform and new clothes. The last thing I want to do is shop, but it has to get done.
I decided to take the bus, keeping a low profile. I just pop in an earbud and walk through the busy streets. It kinda took me by surprise, seeing all the nice-looking stores around me and people who don’t look homeless or on drugs… or both.
