As the afternoon was at its finest, I was rummaging through my thoughts while hanging up some clothes. The gentle breeze embraced me, and it felt like peace itself was surrounding me when a loud shout shattered the illusion.

"No! No! NO! You're wrong! I won't go to the church! I'll be a soldier, a knight!" shouted Elara suddenly, just before running out of the orphanage with teary eyes.

Poor Elara. With a basket full of clothes under my arm, I sighed and approached the priest, the one speaking with the little girl before she ran away. The man was well-built for someone in his sixties, his eyes were a clear blue reminiscing of the sky, and his hair was nowhere to be seen. His aura radiated confidence and an apparent gentleness.

"Does sweet Elara still refuse?" I asked the old man.

He gave me a wry smile before replying, "Indeed, she remains as resolute as ever, unwavering in her stance."

"Still, I feel bad for her, Father Synder."

"Indeed, as do I. Yet, these trying times demand swift and decisive actions, and the Goddess has ordained a greater destiny for her. Surely, Sister, you of all people must understand this."

"I understand, Father," I expressed. Are you for real? You invoke the Goddess's name to justify this? A greater destiny? Being an assassin is nothing so grandiose.

Nonetheless, what came from my mouth was nothing alike my thoughts, "Well, she must have gone to her parents's house again, she will be back in a few hours. So let's just wait, Father."

At those words, the old man showed a light smile, the kind of smile that screams 'you can trust me'. If only I could. "Well," he started. "I hope you are right. But for the time being, I shall take my leave to speak with Fernand. Continue diligently with your duties, Sister."

As soon as he strolled away, my thoughts went straight back to the little girl.

Elara. Her life has been nothing but hard lately. Although she has been living with us in the orphanage for little more than a year, I've known her for five years now. I was born and raised in this town, Estrella, but when I turned fifteen I left this place for the church in Anden, a nearby city. There, I was raised as one of the servants of the Goddess, only to come back when I was twenty-one, five years ago. That's when I met her.

As I recalled such things, I went back to hanging up clothes. After a few minutes, someone addressed me.

"Miss lazy! I mean, Miss Lizzy!" said the most boisterous of the orphan kids.

"Hey Vin! Don't call me that! You are lucky I am busy right now," I said while hanging up a dress belonging to Petra, one of the youngest girls. "What is it, sweetie? What can I do for you?"

"Where is Elara? I can't find her."

I sighed before answering, "Well, we both know she disappears sometimes, but she comes back. I'm pretty sure she's in her house."

"But the orphanage is her house, right?"

"You know what I mean." I look at him, smile sweetly, and then state, "But maybe that girl wouldn't disappear so often if you were nicer to her, you know?"

"Wha-? It's not like I am mean to her or something! Mmph!" he said before running like the wind.

"Ha... this kid." It's obvious he's into her. I just wish he'd treat Elara nicely instead of messing with her all the time.

Some minutes later I finished hanging up the clothes and decided to take a stroll. Chores in the orphanage kept my free time to a minimum in the past, but luckily for me two new nuns joined us recently, so I enjoyed some leisure time nowadays.
