"No, let me go!" I screamed. The second I was about to fall a force pulled me back. I frantically try to get away from the strangers grasp and dive into the water, but the grip on my waist doesn't lighten up. Screaming some more I cling to the edge of the bridge pulling myself up. The strangers face comes into the dim park light. His brown hair is tussled to the left making him look like he just came out of bed. "Get away." I threaten. "Or I jump."
He holds out his hands in a surrender way and steps cautiously forward. I look back at the water, it lies unmoved. He moves closer putting his hands back down. Putting my foot on the ledge he grabs my shoulders, tripping us to the musty pond.
I feel the cool water rush up onto my skin dousing my clothes, nothing left will be dry. The unknown boy hands lets go until I feel them on my arm hoisting me up to breathe the air the oxygen has to supply me. My head comes to the surface, reaching my hand to smooth out my hair and wipe my face off, he comes up. His chest is moving up and down; his black Pink Lloyd short is covered in the orange rust. "Nathan." The boy gives a smile. Holding out his hand for me to shake. I roll my eyes at him.
"Nows not a good time to be introducing ourselves." I grab his hand. It's two times larger then mine, and probably had three times more force then Derek's. "Paige." He shakes it letting the water wave around as he does. Nathan lets out a smirk; I roll my eyes swimming to the edge, crawling onto the edge of the pond; Nathan follows close behind laying down right beside me.
The stars are shining brighter than anything. Anyone could of saw the tussling we had, which ended with us falling onto a bridge. The last thing I want is the cops coming, they would call Derek resulting me into not moving my body for two days. But being free was my plan; now I'm not so sure if I actually thought this plan all the way through.
"Why'd you jump?" Out of the corner of my eyes, I see his face turned towards mine. Brown eyes sparking for my attention. My chest heaves up as I let out a shaky breath.
I shrug my shoulders, making it look like its no big deal. But really it is. I'm dying to get out of the hell house Derek let me in. He started off being every girls dream guy, but there's something in everyone that snaps and goes back together. Derek's just never fixed.
"No reason." Nathan's thick husky laugh fills the air of stars and galaxies undiscovered. Propping himself on one elbow, his teeth sink into his bottom lip before speaking.
"So your telling me, you were going to take your life for no reason?"
I open my mouth to say something but instantly close it. Not knowing how stupid that sounded. There always is a reason to take your life; you can't just go,"I want to take my life, because it sounds fun."
I try again. Mouth fumbling with words. Both out heads snap to the left as two police cars, and an ambulance show up. More then five me are running to our aid.
I don't need help. I thought. But I really do. I'm so jacked up I can't believe I thought being free was even going to last three hours.
One of the men picks me up from under my arms. His hands wrap a fleece blanket around my shoulders; doing the same to Nathan. My body is telling me I'm freezing but my brain numbs it out, making me think I'm on a roller coaster and there just butterflies.
One man with chiseled features and a tight fitting uniform leads me to the ambulance. Letting me sit on the side, trying my best to explain the story.
"I-I- I just wanted to be gone." My gaze never meets his eyes. It's like looking into your fathers and telling him your pregnant. You don't want to get in trouble. I cross my gaze with his. The officers eyes look black under his hat. He just nods his head urging me to go on. "Anything else?"
I watch my wet shoes crush a moving ant. "That boy over there." I point to know who I was talking about. "He saved me." The officer nodded again walking to the heavier one; probably exchanging information with each other.
I wish I knew what he was thinking. Maybe that I have daddy issues, trouble is I don't have a dad. My smirk hits the ground with a hard pull as Nathan approaches me leaning against the ambulances door frame.
"Now give me the real reason you jumped." I shrugged. You never really come out to someone and be like,"My boyfriends abusive, I don't have parents, and I'm over a thousand miles away from home."
Instead I just tell him I can't. I don't think it's killing him to know my story but a flash of pain runs through his eyes before the police ask us to come over there.
"I've contacted who ya'll are staying with." Her southern accent shows leaving no holes to guess where he's from. She contacted Derek.... The sound of a 1972 Red Mustang screeches through the gravel, revealing an angry Derek.
I feel my heart drop to my feet. I'm going to pass out. The woman officer put her pedicured hands on my upper arm. "Hun, you okay."
Nathan's attention goes to Derek, by the vile coming off his tan skin I can tell he knows what's happening.
"Umm, yeah. I'm fine." I lied.
