Chapter 13
Not ganna say anything. Just ganna write:)
***Nathan***
"One mocha latte." The blonde hands me the money, walking away with the disgusting drink. I hate coffee, right now, I hate everything. Paige she's the top of my list, leaving me standing in the middle of the street, but all she had to say was "I love you too." How hard is that?
P!nks rock song plays silently over the speakers. Every word she sings reminds me of my situation. "Just when it can't get worse you've had a shit day." She sings about her life and the trouble this man caused her, while I'm over here humming the trouble of what Paige caused me.
The hours tick away slowly, counting down when I'll leave, but is seem like it's counting up adding more of my time in this place.
"Work at a place you hate." My friend Jacob said while we were looking for jobs.
"Why?"
"Because if you work at a place you like, you start to hate it. If you work at a place you hate, you'll like it."
I've worked at this place almost three years and I still hate it.
The doorbell rings signing how for some to come in. A girl that had ginger hair, too much makeup on, and loud high heels walks in. She scopes around looking at all the people. The usual customers; for me she has never came here.
"What would it be?" I ask, eyeing her dress. The top cuts down showing way to much cleavage, the bottom hits right above her knees, with a floral pattern. Such a pretty dress wasted on such an ugly face.
I bet Paige would look good wearing it...
The ginger scoffs at me. "The usual."
"I don't know what the usual is." I say rather rudely.
"Nathan!" My boss warns behind me wiping down the counter.
"Carmel mocha no foam." Whipping out her phone, her fingers speed away. Hunter, another worker, brings me her nasty coffee.
Handing it to her she exchanges the money, walking up to a round table.
Even if the sign reads close, she stays seated. What is she waiting for. I think to myself.
***Derek***
Sapphire told me to meet her at a local coffee shop her and Paige go to, but I don't know if I want to go.
Ever since Paige got home music and tears have drowned the whole apartment; I feel like I need to console her, take her in my arms and let her cry into my shoulder, but I can't. In her beautiful eyes I'm a monster.
The phone rings again plain and simple. Grabbing the headset, I already know its her again.
"Where the hell are you?" Sapphire hisses.
"At home." Her breath catches in her throat. Disbelief riding through her, no one ever says no to Sapphire.
"Why?" Voice irritated, the small cafe probably can't handle so much steam.
"Because Paige isn't feeling okay and-" Her whisper yells cut me off. Something about how I need to love her again, take her back because she's so much better. This time it me cutting her off.
"Darling, you're do fake." I hang the phone up with a loud crash, I'm not mad, but it's what I always did when I got a call. My dad would do it when mom called, telling him how she spent the money he gave her, I just picked it up, stopping would make it feel so...so unnatural.
Making my way down the hallway, Paige's light creeps under the crack in the door. My hand grabs the knob, turning it to the left. There she is, laying on the floor, new CD in hand, but the player has stopped. Her black dress is wrinkled and has light stains on them. Face covered in old makeup, fresh years lay unmoved. Through the maze of boxes, and clothes, I pick her up bridal style, walking down the hall. Pictures still lined up against the walls. Smiling faces watch us, watch me, as to what I'm doing. The door to my bedroom is ajar, my foot moves in between the space, letting light fill the hallway.
Bed lays unmade, pillows toppled to the side, but really, it would be better for her to sleep in here, than stay in a room full of hurt. Laying her down, my way moves to the bathroom to grab a wash cloth.
Watching her sleep from a door way is more peaceful than watching her cry from her room.
The green towel slides across her face, mascara and makeup disappearing with each swipe.
I let the towel sink to floor, it squishes with the impact. My fingers gentle wipe under getting what the rag couldn't.
"If I could take it back...I don't know if I would." I mutter before leaving the room, ready to meet Sapphire.
