I leaned back, savoring the calm that settled over me. She had no idea, that girl, wandering through her days without a single suspicion. It was almost too easy.
Beside me, Vincent shifted, impatience etched into his every movement. Always in a rush, I thought, stifling a smirk. He turned to me, his voice laced with irritation.
"When are we going to kidnap her? I hate waiting."
I glanced his way, a slow smirk spreading across my face.
"Wait until she has him wrapped around her finger. Let him get comfortable, let him believe he's in control. When the time's right, we'll snatch her, and he'll be at our mercy." I paused, picturing it.
"Luciano will do anything to get her back. Anything."
Vincent's brow furrowed, but I could see the intrigue dawning in his eyes.
He's finally catching on.
"And if he catches on?" he asked, clearly skeptical. "Luciano's no fool."
"No, but he's blinded by his arrogance. He thinks no one can touch him. That's his weakness." I nodded toward the screen, where her innocent smile flickered. "And the girl? She's perfect. Innocent. Easy to manipulate without even knowing it. She'll walk right into our plan."
I could tell Vincent was finally seeing it, the threads weaving into the trap that would soon close around Luciano. He leaned forward, studying her image, as if he too was beginning to savor the calm before the storm.
"When the time's right," I continued, "we'll have her. And with her in our hands, Luciano will be nothing. He'll hand over every scrap of power he has."
Vincent finally cracked a grin. "Then let's keep her under close watch. I want to know her every move."
I nodded, a dark satisfaction settling over me. Yes, I thought, let her walk free, for now. Every step she took brought her closer to sealing Luciano's fate. Soon enough, he would learn just how far he had to fall.
I watched as Vincent's excitement grew, the glint of ambition flickering in his eyes. Good, I thought, finally, he sees the potential here.
The screen showed her turning a corner, her movements graceful, unaware of what lay ahead. I allowed myself a moment to enjoy it, to picture her face when the reality would hit, when she would see that the freedom she thought she had was just an illusion.
"And Luciano?" Vincent broke the silence, his voice laced with anticipation. "What will he do when he realizes he can't control everything?"
"Ah, that's the beauty of it," I replied, leaning forward with my elbows on the desk, my fingers steepled. "Luciano is used to being the puppet master. He's the head of the De Luca empire, feared by everyone who dares to cross him. But this?" I gestured to the screen. "This will be different. He won't have the power this time."
Vincent gave a short laugh, low and dangerous. "So, he'll finally know what it feels like to lose.""Exactly." I could feel my own smile stretching wider. "But he won't lose everything all at once. No, we'll make him work for it, make him sweat, make him beg. He'll think he has a chance to save her, and he'll hand over everything bit by bit."
I let the silence hang between us, each second of it amplifying the satisfaction in the room. Vincent ran a hand over his chin, nodding in slow agreement.
"And the girl?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "She's bound to catch on eventually."
I shrugged, dismissing the thought. "When she realizes, it'll be too late. By then, she'll be too deep in to escape. She'll become the very tool we need to make Luciano fall to his knees."
I stood up, glancing out the window at the dark city below. Each light in the distance was like a pulse, beating in time with the life that coursed through my veins. I had waited for this moment for years, the taste of revenge so close I could feel it tingling on my tongue. Luciano De Luca thought he was untouchable, but he had no idea of the trap tightening around him, inch by inch, second by second.
"When we move," I said, my voice low, "we'll do it without warning. We'll strike when he thinks he's won, and the second he realizes he's lost, he'll give us everything. His mafia, his loyalty, his dignity—it'll all be ours."
Vincent rose to his feet, matching my energy, the hunger in his eyes now a perfect mirror of my own. We exchanged one last look, a silent promise between us. Soon, the game would begin, and Luciano De Luca would be nothing more than a memory.
