3 Years Later
The aroma of freshly cooked pasta filled the kitchen as I stirred the sauce, occasionally glancing over my shoulder at Luciano and Alessio. My husband sat on the carpet with our three-year-old son, surrounded by a colorful mess of toy cars. Alessio's giggles echoed through the house as he narrated a dramatic race between his red and blue cars.
"No, Daddy! The blue one is faster!" Alessio exclaimed, pushing the toy forward with determination.
Luciano smirked, his deep voice playfully challenging. "Are you sure, little man? Red's got the turbo boost." He sent the red car zooming past, making exaggerated engine noises that sent Alessio into fits of laughter.
"Cheaters don't win, Daddy!" Alessio declared, sticking out his tongue.
"Neither do sore losers," Luciano teased back, his chuckle resonating warmly.
"Alright, boys," I called out, my voice cutting through their playful banter. "Dinner's ready! Come wash up and eat before it gets cold."
Both heads turned toward me, Luciano flashing a smile while Alessio jumped to his feet. "Race you to Mommy!" Alessio shouted, darting toward the kitchen. Luciano feigned a slow start but quickly caught up, sweeping Alessio into his arms just before they reached me.
Luciano leaned in to give me a quick peck on the lips, but Alessio immediately groaned. "Eww, Daddy! No kissing Mommy!" He wriggled free, crossing his arms with an exaggerated pout.
I chuckled, ruffling Alessio's dark curls. "Oh, come on, sweetheart. Don't you want to see Daddy showing Mommy some love?"
"No!" Alessio declared, stomping his foot before huffing. "I'm going to check on Hazel." He spun around and padded down the hall to the nursery.
Luciano and I exchanged a look, laughter bubbling between us. "Still thinks girls are gross," I mused.
"Let's hope he keeps that mindset for a few more years," Luciano quipped, wrapping an arm around my waist.
Moments later, Alessio returned, climbing onto his chair at the dining table. "She's still sleeping," he reported, looking proud of himself for checking in on his baby sister.
"Thank you for being such a good big brother," I said, sitting beside him.
Luciano joined us, and we dug into our meal, chatting about everything from Alessio's toy car collection to his latest drawings.
"Mommy, can I have more cheese on my pasta?" Alessio asked, his big brown eyes sparkling.
"Of course, sweetie," I replied, sprinkling Parmesan over his plate.
"Daddy said he's going to win the next car race," Alessio said between bites, glaring playfully at Luciano.
"Only if you let me," Luciano teased, making Alessio giggle.
When dinner was over, Luciano pushed his chair back and stretched. "How about we go for a drive? I've got a surprise planned."
"A surprise?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "What kind of surprise?"
"You'll see," he said, standing up and lifting Alessio from his chair. "Come on, little man, let's get you dressed up for the occasion."
I smiled as they walked off, their laughter echoing down the hall. Turning toward the nursery, I found Hazel awake, her hazel eyes crinkling with a smile as she cooed softly. "Good morning, sweetheart," I whispered, scooping her up and carrying her to the changing table. After a quick wash, I dressed her in a soft, lavender romper with tiny lace details.
When I turned around, I gasped. Alessio stood in a crisp white shirt and navy suspenders, his hair neatly combed. Luciano, as always, looked effortlessly handsome in a fitted button-down shirt and dark slacks. Alessio ran to me, his little arms outstretched, and I bent down to hug him.
"Wow, Daddy dressed you up so well!" I exclaimed, planting a kiss on his cheek.
"Da faq," Alessio said with a cheeky grin.
I froze, blinking at him. "Excuse me?"
Luciano's head snapped toward Alessio, his eyebrows raised. "Where did you learn that?"
I cleared my throat, avoiding Luciano's gaze. "Um, well...you see, there was this TikTok trend..."
"Unbelievable," Luciano muttered, shaking his head, though his lips twitched in amusement.
We piled into the car, the evening breeze streaming through the windows as Luciano drove us to the surprise destination. Alessio hummed along to the radio while Hazel cooed softly in her car seat.
When we arrived, Luciano parked and opened the door for me. He gently unbuckled Hazel from her seat, kissing her cheek before placing her in the stroller. Alessio grabbed my hand, and together, we followed Luciano down the path.
I gasped when I saw the setup—a table draped in white cloth, surrounded by fairy lights and candles. Flower petals lined the walkway, and the sound of soft music drifted through the air.
"It's beautiful," I whispered, turning to Luciano.
He smiled, pulling me close. "Not as beautiful as you."
After seating Alessio beside Hazel's stroller, Luciano took my hand and led me to the center of the setup. Dropping to one knee, he pulled out a velvet box and opened it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring.
"Rosaline," he began, his voice thick with emotion. "The first time I married you, it was for duty. But since then, you've given me love, laughter, and a family I never dreamed I'd have. I want to do this again, not for an alliance, but for us. Will you marry me—again?"
Tears streamed down my face as I nodded. "Yes! A thousand times, yes."
Luciano slipped the ring onto my finger, standing to pull me into his arms. Alessio clapped enthusiastically, shouting, "Yay, Mommy and Daddy!"
The evening was filled with laughter, dancing, and a beautiful cake that Alessio insisted on feeding to everyone, including Hazel, though she only babbled in response.
As the night drew to a close, I leaned against Luciano, Alessio snuggled on my lap, and Hazel sleeping soundly in her stroller. My heart felt full as I looked at my family. This was everything I had ever dreamed of and more.
