As we pulled into the driveway, I cut the engine and exhaled, trying to push down the last remnants of adrenaline coursing through me. Rosaline looked at me, her gaze softer than I expected after the chaos.

I glanced at her, raising a brow. "Next time you decide to go for a little outing, maybe let me know?"

She tilted her head, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth despite my tone. "I didn't think I had to. I didn't expect... well, all that." She gestured vaguely back toward the road, where we'd just managed to escape a high-speed chase.

"Oh, you didn't think I'd mind you going off with some guy who's apparently too interested in my wife?" I asked, leaning back in my seat, one arm resting on the steering wheel as I looked at her.Rosaline's cheeks colored faintly, and she looked down at her hands, fidgeting.

"I mean... he didn't even know my name until today," she muttered, almost defensively.

"And yet here he is, traveling across borders for you," I scoffed. "Seems awfully dedicated for someone who 'doesn't know you.'"

She bit her lip, her brows drawing together as she looked away. "It's not like I encouraged him. I just... I thought it was harmless."

"Harmless," I repeated with a slight growl, though I could feel the tension loosening in my shoulders. Seeing her here, safe and clearly unaffected by whatever intention that guy had... it was all that mattered now.

I reached over, placing a hand on her chin and turning her face back toward me, holding her gaze. "Next time, tell me. And don't think I won't follow if someone tries this again."

Her eyes softened, a bit of amusement dancing there, though her tone was quiet. "You're a little intense, you know that?"
