Chapter 26 - Start of a Nightmare

Our new destination took us by surprise. Instead of the usual landscapes or wild forests, a towering, ancient castle loomed before us. It's dark stone walls stretched high, casting shadows that covered the entire clearing. The air buzzed with an unsettling energy, and somewhere nearby, a crowd roared in unison, chanting names we couldn't quite make out. It felt like we'd stumbled into a place meant for something far more dangerous than we'd encountered before.

As we took in our surroundings, a figure approached, tall, cloaked in feathers, with a sharp beak and piercing eyes that seemed to scrutinize every inch of us. This bird-like creature radiated authority, his gaze flicking between us as though sizing us up.

"You are in the Nightmare Arena," he declared, his voice sharp and resonant. "What are your objectives, little travelers?"

Frye stepped forward, even the brave one. "We simply want to pass through. We don't mean any trouble."

The bird-man's head tilted, an unsettling glint in his eye. "To escape this place and pass through the portal, you must defeat one of our challengers."

It sounded simple enough, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it wouldn't be. My mind raced with possibilities. We might face a powerful mage who could manipulate minds, or maybe some giant sea creature that could drown us without water. We had no idea what lurked within the walls of this arena, and the unknowns gnawed at me..
