I slashed at the ice wall with my sword, hoping for a miracle but knowing deep down it was pointless. The solid wall barely had a scratch, my idea as futile as I'd expected.

"The sign said melt, Astra. We need something that generates heat," Althea pointed out, scanning our group for options. "Frye, do you have anything to heat food with?"

Frye shot them a glare, still annoyed from earlier. "This isn't snack time, genius," she muttered, folding her arms.

"Frye, I'm not talking about eating," Althea replied calmly. "I'm talking about melting the ice."

"Oh, right." Rolling her eyes at herself, Frye dug through her pack, pulling out a compact camping kit she'd picked up during her travels.

"Thanks," Althea replied, taking the small pot boiler from her and setting it up. They worked to ignite the tiny flame, and soon, a soft hiss and warmth filled the otherwise freezing air.

We all watched as they positioned it near the base of the ice wall. To our surprise, it began to melt a small sliver of ice, but only just. If I had to guess, we were chipping away at maybe two percent of the entire wall.

This could take forever, but at least it was a start, one small, hopeful crack in the icy cage that trapped us.
