The Block B performed one last time at the M Countdown. There was a lot of heavy tension as the group walked in stage. Since their debut in April of 2011, Block B has strived to be the dark horse of the Kpop industry. One thing Zico cherished more was authenticity. His formative years as an underground MC taught him to value his craft. With every comeback he challenged himself to write whatever he was feeling.
Songs like Jackpot took a jab at the Korean entertainment scene for it's manufactured industry and how they control their artist like puppets. His grievances with Stardom and how their spineless CEO took his own life rather than facing the consequences.
Zico has faced the wrath of movement he used to be part of who called him a sellout. Tough Cookie was meant to be statement but the execution of it was so bad that he removed the video. He made strategic with some of the talented faces in industry named Fanxy Child. Bermuda Triangle was his greatest masterpiece and served as his mantra.
For Taeil it was learning how to manage the group. He carried the group's main vocals. He was placed the burden of looking after Loco and Zico during the group's darkest days. He was a year younger than Loco but felt like the older brother at times.
Jaehyo was learning how not to take everything so personal. He was the group's punching bag during live, but he would be lying if that didn't affect his confidence. He is still learning to love himself.
For U-Kwon it was managing his relationship at time when idols dating was heavily frowned upon. Just a year into his debut and he was exposed for dating. Instead of trying to hide it like his agency demanded, he made it public. He did everything he could to keep his girlfriend safe from harassment. They have been for nearly seven years and are still happily together.
B-Bomb had to balance being the main dancer and vocalist. He was often overshadowed by the flashier members as a result. These days he is finding peace by listening to meditation and zone out on his own.
Kyung was the lovable happy go lucky member who would join Zico and Loco. He was just as close to Zico as Loco was, he even knew Zico long before Loco joined. Kyung opened up about his struggles as an idol criticizing the industry's tight control on the idol's image. He laments how idols who debut are often young and are forced to conform therefore losing their identity.
Pyo Jihoon was learning that the world is very difficult and having a set of friends around you is valuable. Even though he was growing up that did not mean he could enjoy life. He was making his own path by pursing acting. He hopes to become an entertaining celebrity beyond rapping.
As for Loco? His journey was different due to the fact he had no prior training. Essentially he played catch up with the boys which affected his popularity. It was tough during his rookie days being the ugly member. He made first break at the first ever SMTM where he one first place. He cried that day after that accomplishment. Out of the darkness he met Hwasa, his burning star. After signing with Jay Park his career exploded where he is now Hip Hop's most respected MCs.
Each of the boys worked hard to get their recognition. They hoped to inspire other idol groups
"Gomawo y'all. We're forever Block B!" Zico said raising a mic up in the air.
