It was the next day, Kido didn't want to go to school today. Although he didn't want to go, he still got ready for the day, it was a Monday, and he had a test today. He wanted to skip school but his controlling father wouldn't let him do so. Kido sighed in annoyance and frustration as he headed out of the door and drove to school.
"You didn't tell me you drove!" said Masumi
"Oh yeah.. Right, uh yeah I drive. Sort of..."
"What do you mean 'sort of,' Hiko?"
"Well, I only really drive to school and from my house. I still haven't gotten my license-"
"Oh, well that makes sense. How's your family?" she asked, tilting her head
Kido cringed at the question, looking away before answering, "They're... Fine, I guess.."
Masumi realized and sighed, looking at Kido, "Right, you don't like to talk about.... Him.. I forgot. Sorry."
"It's okay Masumi, I just... Still haven't gotten used to his... ways.."
Masumi hugged Kido, smiling apologetically, "It's okay... I sort of understand where you're coming from, Masa-sama."
Kido smiled softly, and hugged her back, "Yeah, I hope so... He's still an alcoholic though. He also...escalated his abuse towards me..."
Masumi winced at that, "Jesus...When will he ever stop drinking? And when will he ever stop abusing you?!"
Kido let out a dry, humorless laugh, "He won't ever stop, he's addicted to drinking. And he won't ever stop abusing me, it's obvious. That's why my mom left with my sister..."
"And she didn't take you?! What the heck is wrong with her!" said Masumi, clearly angry with Hiko's mother.
"No she didn't, but it's not a big deal. There's...Nothing wrong with my mom Masumi, it was her choice to leave me with him.."
"But why? You don't deserve to live with that crappy person you call 'father' at all!"
"I get that you're concerned about me Masumi, but I swear, I'm fine," replies Kido with a sigh.
"Whatever you say Kido...I'll see ya later. Good luck with your test, yeah?"
"Yeah, sure...See you. Mhm, you too, I guess. " He gives a halfhearted wave and walks to class.
