Unlike literally everyone else, Ivy was having a great time.

First off, she got to stay in Alola, where she was born in the first place.

"Dude," said Ivy. "I'm not going to eat another stupid coconut!"

"Why?" whined the Hakamo-o, who was halfway through preparing another one.

"Don't you guys eat anything other than coconuts here?"

"It's either coconuts or malasadas." Hibi gently brushed a hanging vine aside with a scaled forearm. "Take your pick."

"Ugh." Ivy batted at a leaf languidly. "I need to go find Tapu Koko soon."

"Yeah, you do."

"Or I could just lie here."

Hibi dropped his coconut and scampered up the trunk of the tree he was on until he was almost completely out of sight. The thick canopy hid all but his tail, which made the sound of metal when he moved it.

"You could look for Tapu Koko in the wild, but it really is easier to try an island challenge. If you pass, the Tapu will be summoned. But it's also weird, 'cause it's usually the humans that are taking on the Island Trials," said Hibi from above Ivy. When he was small, he had wanted to take an island challenge. Something about one of his relatives being a Totem Pokémon.

"I need to be as fast as possible and it would be boring and tedious to look for the temple," agreed Ivy reluctantly. "Let's do that if we get really desperate. Do we need to visit humans to help us find Tapu Koko?"

"Alolan folk always listen to Pokémon." Hibi dropped down from his high branch and landed clumsily next to Ivy. In one of his claws was a sort of Berry. "But I'm most worried about the Tapus themselves. The humans worship the four of them as island guardians, but they're also sort of jerks."

Leave it to Hibi to know. He was also a nerd with an unhealthy fascination with human habits and the history of the Tapu temples. Even though she liked the holidays and festivals celebrating the Tapus, Ivy had never really bothered to learn much about them. She spent all her time photosynthesizing, reinforcing her cell walls, and counting the central vacuoles of her plant cells (I can't believe I fucking wrote this).

Ivy glanced at the sky. It was almost dark. "We should head towards the nearest village first thing tomorrow," she suggested. "Let's get to Tapu Koko first, and worry about the rest later."

"Fine by me," shrugged Hibi. "But first–dinner!"

"Are you sure this is it?"

"Well, it's a fucking temple, isn't it? Hurry up and put the bomb down so we can get out of here!" Another voice snapped at the first in the pitch darkness.

"Okay, okay!" There was a series of scrambling noises, followed by the sound of metal on stone. "How much are we getting paid to do this again?"

"A lot. Hey, set the timer to five minutes, like that batshit Stacey woman told us to do."

"Five minutes until detonation..." Fingers flew over the operating board of the bomb. "It's done."

"Good," responded the other voice, relieved. "The other three should be ready soon, too. C'mon, let's leave."

Something like static cut through, and another voice spoke frantically into Ivy's head.

"Wake up, Leafeon! There's only one of you, and it has begun."
