At 2 p.m., Jin's paperwork was finally ready. With a heavy heart and trembling hands, Uncle Min signed the documents for the abortion, his tears falling onto the pages. Aunt Min and Jisoo couldn’t hold back, breaking down into heart-wrenching sobs beside him.
Soon, the procedure began, and as they waited in agonizing silence, Aunt Min’s heart burned with anger. She couldn’t understand how Taehyung, who had promised to care for Jin, had left him in such a vulnerable state. Meanwhile, Uncle Min was haunted by memories of Jungkook – the same Jungkook who once raised a hand in anger to protect Jin, yet now had abandoned him in his hour of greatest need.
Jisoo was overcome with guilt for leaving Jin alone when he needed her most. She couldn’t help but feel that if she had stayed by his side, maybe, just maybe, this nightmare could have been avoided.
Later that night, Jin was moved to a recovery ward. Uncle Min, Aunt Min, and Jisoo stayed by his side, unwilling to leave him alone for even a moment.
The next morning, Jin slowly regained consciousness. His head felt heavy, and as he glanced around the room, he saw Aunt Min lying on the sofa, Jisoo asleep on a chair next to him, and Uncle Min resting on a blanket spread on the floor. The scene was unfamiliar and unsettling.
Gingerly, Jin reached for his abdomen, feeling a strange emptiness that filled him with dread. Tears began to well up in his eyes, flowing uncontrollably as he tried to understand what had happened.
The others awoke at the sound of his soft cries, rushing to his side, their faces etched with sorrow.
“Aunt…” Jin’s voice was barely a whisper, trembling with fear and confusion. “Why…why do I feel so strange? It’s like a part of me is…missing. Why am I in the hospital? Everything’s okay, right?”
Aunt Min couldn’t hold back her tears, pulling Jin into a tight embrace as she wept openly. Jin’s heart began to sink, a cold dread settling in as he realized that something terrible had happened. His tears continued to fall, his heart breaking with each passing second.
“Aunt…tell me everything is okay,” he pleaded, voice quivering. “My baby…my baby is okay, right?”
Jisoo and Uncle Min, unable to watch him suffer, looked away. Uncle Min stood up, leaving the room, while Jisoo broke down in tears beside him.
“Jisoo…” Jin’s voice was desperate. “Please, tell me. Don’t cry like this; you’re scaring me…”
Finally, Aunt Min gathered her courage, holding Jin tightly as she spoke through her sobs. “Jin…there were complications with your pregnancy. The doctors…they had to end it. If they hadn’t…your life would have been at risk.”
The words felt like knives piercing his heart. Jin froze, silent as tears streamed down his face. He began to wail, the loss overwhelming him. All the dreams he had held for his child shattered in an instant, leaving him broken beyond repair. Aunt Min and Jisoo tried their best to comfort him, but his grief was too vast, too consuming.
After a while, Jin tried to pull himself together, his lips trembling as he asked, “Where…where is Jungkook? Did he talk to the doctors? Wasn’t there another way? How…how could he let this happen?”
At the mention of Jungkook’s name, Jisoo’s face hardened with anger. Her voice shook as she replied, “Oh, he did plenty, alright.”
She reached into Aunt Min’s bag, pulling out a wad of cash and tossing it onto Jin’s bed with contempt. “Here’s what Jungkook gave us. He said if we needed extra money for the procedure, this would cover it. As if that’s all you’re worth to him now. He doesn’t care, You. Your suffering, your life…none of it matters to him. Or to anyone else in that household.”
Her words cut deeper than any wound. Jin felt his heart shatter, memories of Jungkook’s harsh words and cold actions flooding his mind. Each recollection, each bitter reminder, tore at him, leaving him in pieces, the love he had once cherished now nothing but painful fragments of a dream long gone.
At the Kim Mansion, Mr. and Mrs. Kim, Grandma, Jungkook, and Hoseok were all having breakfast together. When Jin didn’t appear, Grandma asked,
“Hasn’t Jin returned from his aunt’s house?”No one replied, so Mrs. Kim said,
“Yes, it’s good that he’s spending time with his aunt. That way, he won’t feel his mother’s absence as much.”Hearing this, Hoseok got irritated, and Jungkook stood up and left.
Mrs. Kim, puzzled, asked,
“What happened to him now?”Mr. Kim, clearly annoyed, responded,
“What else? This has become his daily drama. Your son is going mad. Handle him, or he’ll not only ruin himself but drag us down with him.”Meanwhile, Taehyung was so busy with meetings that he couldn’t even find the time to call Jin.
Jungkook, on the other hand, didn’t want to think about Jin anymore, as if he’d grown to hate him.
At the hospital, Jin lay on his side on the bed, knees drawn up. Tears streamed down his face as he reflected on everything that had happened. He wanted to forget what Jungkook had done to him, to escape it all. Turning to his Uncle Min, he whispered,
“Uncle… can we go live in the village? There’s nothing left for me here… I want to get away from all this. I don’t want to stay here anymore.”Uncle Min gently placed a hand on his head and replied,
“As you wish. After your discharge, we’ll go there.”The day passed in this way. Eventually, Taehyung found some time and called Jin, but Jin didn’t answer. Feeling uneasy, he called Grandma, who mentioned that Jin hadn’t returned from his aunt’s house. Concerned, he called Jin’s aunt, who saw Taehyung’s name on the screen, grew angry, and stepped aside to answer.
Taehyung,
“Hello, Aunty. I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your calls earlier; I was tied up with work. Where’s Jin? I’ve been calling him, but he isn’t picking up. I wanted to talk to him.”Aunt, with a cold tone,
“And why do you want to talk to him?”Taehyung,
“I… just wanted to know how he’s doing.”Aunt,
“To see if he’s dead or alive, right? You and your brother have both played with Jin’s life in ways I’ll never forgive.”Taehyung, now alarmed,
“What happened to Jin? Is he okay?”Aunt, bitterly,
“Don’t play innocent with me. Maybe for you rich people, this is just a game… but for Jin, it’s a lifetime of sorrow. You promised to bring happiness to his life, didn’t you? Is this how you keep your promises?”Taehyung, desperate,
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Please, tell me clearly.”Aunt, voice shaking with anger,
“Jin had a miscarriage yesterday. If we hadn’t gone through with the abortion, his life would have been in danger. And you people left him alone during such a time. Your brother Jungkook threw money at us, saying he doesn’t care whether Jin or his child lives or dies.”Her tone grew even colder as she finished,
“My nephew will no longer stay with you all, in that house where he’s treated so cruelly.”Taehyung, pleading,
“Aunty, please listen to me. You’re misunderstanding…”But before he could finish, Aunt ended the call.
