Sara curled up to Glen on the couch in his office. He had been there all night and had to stay until the second shift because there was no coverage for him. He had only an hour to sleep but he wanted Sara to be with him so they laid there together.
She ran her hand through his hair over and over. She stared at how peaceful his face looked when he was asleep. "You know it could be said it's creepy to watch someone sleep" Glen smirked not opening his eyes.
Sara smacked his chest "cute Glen, I need to go back to work, before I get busy and forget. I was wondering if I could borrow Claire all day Saturday?"
Glen looked at the calendar on his phone "uh ya we don't have anything planned. What are you going to do?"
Sara smiled big "I thought I would take her for a girls day. I was going to take her to help me pick up a birthday gift for my niece, then lunch and finally going to the nail salon for mani/pedi's. Do you think she would like that?"
Glen nodded "she would love that. She doesn't get to do that often. The only thing I ask is if she gets fake nails they need to not be too long"
Sara agreed "no I get it, because of working with patients I have to keep my nails pretty short so I usually just get the polish that lasts a long time rather than nails. I'll convince her that's the way to go. If she really wants nails I'll make sure they do what's called sports length"
Glen kissed her. "I think you should call her and ask her tonight." Sara agreed and headed back to the floor for her shift.
That evening Claire came barreling down the stairs "daddy, Sara asked me if I wanted to go out and do a girls day on Saturday? Please please may I go? We are going to get our nails done"
Glen chuckled at how fast she was talking. It was obvious that Sara's invitation made Claire very excited. "Yes sweetie you can go" he assured her, making her jump up and down squealing."
Saturday seemed to take forever for Claire but finally it was here. Sara got to the house at ten and the two left soon after that. The mall was already crowded.
Sara and Claire went to different stores looking for the perfect present. Claire had some money with her to spend but she was regretting not having as much as she could have had to spend if it hadn't been for the $100 her father took from her to pay for her brother Anthony's phone.
Two weeks prior to the girls day, Claire and Anthony had been bickering all day. Anthony had been getting on her nerves all day within constant picking on her. When he played the same song that Claire had already told him she hated, over and over again as loud as his phone could go?
Claire grabbed his phone in a fit of anger and dropped it into his cup of soda. The phone was broken, but thankfully they had insurance on the phone. Her fathers made her pay the insurance cost of replacing the phone as part of her punishment.
Claire now didn't have enough to buy everything she wanted to. The girls were currently at a jewelry store called "Icing" Claire was looking at several things she wanted. Sara had stepped outside the store when she got a call from her mothers caregiver.
"Maam, I'm sorry to interrupt but did you come into the store with a young girl named Claire?" A security guard tapped her shoulder as she was hanging up her phone. "Uh yes, is she okay?" Sara asked in panic.
"Physically, yes, but we have a problem. She was caught stealing," Sara stood there in shock.
"Come again? You said she did what?" Sara asked in disbelief.
