Chapter 33: Alone

Great prompt from @creatingnewthings321 thank you for the inspiration. I hope you like what I did with it 🙂. It runs through three chapters so I hope you enjoy reading it.

The prompt was given to me back when I first wrote this book in 2022, I hope @creatingnewthings321 will still enjoy the story after all my editing is complete.

Derek stared at his phone in disbelief as he read the message over and over

"Hey baby brother, I've missed you. Can we talk?" Derek hadn't heard from Elaine since his mother had gotten sick with cancer.

He watched his mothers heart break from his sister running off with her boyfriend and shutting her out. Derek had held deep resentment for her abandoning their mother when she needed her children the most.

Elaine never checked on him or Anthony after their mothers death. Derek sat there shaking his head, he sat on his and Thomas' bed waiting for Thomas to get home, he had to stay late for a school board meeting.

Derek received a text from Thomas "hey babe I won't be home for dinner me and few teachers are going to grab dinner together. Love you ❤" Derek sighed and went downstairs.

James was sitting on the counter while Zach cooked dinner. They were so caught up in each other they didn't know Derek was in the room. After several minutes of being ignored Derek left the room.

He saw Sara and Glen sitting on the couch cuddling. He was going to go join them but the way they were whispering and laughing to each other he didn't want to intrude.

He made his way upstairs and heard the boys shouting in the twins room. Derek walked in to see Anthony shove Brett on the bed and shout in his face

"Hey, what do you think you're doing? You do not put your hands on your brother. What's going on here?"

Caleb jumped in "Anthony started it he accused Brett of cheating during Mario kart but he didn't cheat. Anthony got in his face and started cursing at him"

Anthony glared at Caleb "of course he defends him. Brett did cheat then called me a pussy for getting mad at him. That's why I pushed him" Derek pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Give me your controllers, you three are done with video games for two weeks. Anthony and Brett get in a corner now you're both getting a spanking" Brett went to the corner while Caleb reluctantly went and got the controllers for Derek.

Anthony stood there defiantly glaring at Derek "Young man I told you to get in a corner" he scolded sternly. Anthony did something that made everyone in the room gasp in shock, he laughed and looked Derek in the eyes.

"Your not my guardian anymore nor are you my daddy or papa I don't answer to you so you can fuck off for all I care" Derek felt his heart shatter, everything came crashing down on him. The anger left his face and pure sadness and pain filled his eyes as tears began to fall.

Anthony realized what he had said and felt horrible "Derek I didn't mean it I'm sorry" Derek just shook his head and walked out of the room. He grabbed his keys that hung by the front door and left the house.

"Are you out of your mind? Why did you say that to him, Anthony, that was so cruel? Did you see how hurt he was?" Brett scolded his brother.

Anthony sat on his bed crying "I didn't mean it I just got scared and didn't want to be spanked and it just came out. He hates me, I'm so stupid" he cried.

Caleb and Brett sat on either side of him and put their arms around him. "He doesn't hate you. You're in huge trouble but he will forgive you. He loves you so much" Caleb tried to comfort him.
