The next evening Kelly lied in her bed completely zoning out. She was mindlessly playing with the ears of her stuffed lamb, the only thing she had from her mom. She was on her back with her knees propped up, staring at the ceiling.
"Hey Kelly bean" Zack peaked his head into her room
Kelly glanced at Zack then back up at the ceiling.
"What's going on?" Zack sat on the edge of Kelly's bed
"I snapped again, I was doing so good too" Kelly sat all the way up
"Hey it's okay, you're allowed to have bad days just like anybody else" Zack placed a reassuring hand on Kelly's hand
"Yeah but my bad days aren't like everybody else's, and it was directed at Stu again" Kelly groaned and threw her head back
"I mean understandable, he angers me too" Zack tried to lighten the mood
"I just feel so bad, I can't believe I'm reverting back over some guy, like who does that?" Kelly put her face into her hands
"Uh most teenage girls" Zack bluntly stated like it was some obvious thing.
"You know, Casey had the audacity to come up to me at school today and ask me about his likes and interests"
"No way"
"Yeah, she even asked me about what she should wear for their date tonight" Kelly scoffed
"What'd you tell her?"
"White sweater and jeans" Kelly sighed
Zachary started laughing.
"What?" Kelly asked
"You always wonder why people are your friends, and that's exactly why." Zack lightly slapped his sister's arm
"What is?"
"You always lead with kindness, even to people who you should absolutely despise. Your friends see it, how much you care, and that's why they care about you. They know you're struggling and want to help because you always help them"
Kelly sighed and tried to process what her brother said.
"Pig!" Zack suddenly shouted
"What?" Kelly looked confusedly at her brother
"Sorry I've been too nice to you today, had to throw in an insult" Zack dusted off his pants and left her room.
