The invitation came casually enough, as if it were just another day, just another training session.

"Come along, darlin'," Katie had said, flashing you that mischievous grin. "Can show ya wha' proper football looks like, eh?"

You rolled your eyes, giving her a nudge. "Because I clearly don't know what a football is."

Katie laughed, her eyes crinkling at the edges, and shook her head. "Aye, we'll see if ya can keep up."

So that's how you found yourself tagging along with her to training. When you arrived at the pitch, you could see a few familiar faces already warming up—Leah doing stretches, Beth lacing her boots, Alessia chatting animatedly with a coach. The lot of them glanced up as Katie strode over with you trailing behind, her arm slung around your shoulders as if she was proudly showing you off.

Leah was the first to spot you, grinning widely as she waved you over. "Brought a fan today, did ya?"

Katie huffed, clearly enjoying herself. "Aye, thought I'd give her a glimpse at the real athletes. None o' tha' Sunday league stuff."

You poked her in the ribs. "I think the most action you've ever seen was against my nan when she got the last chocolate biscuit."

Katie put on a wounded look, bringing her hand to her chest. "Rude. And yer makin' fun o' me already?"

The other girls laughed, clearly enjoying watching Katie get a little taste of her own teasing medicine. Beth raised an eyebrow, smirking. "So, you're gonna show off a bit for us today, then, Katie?"

Katie gave a confident shrug. "Well, maybe a little. Just so she remembers why she's wit' me," she said, winking at you.

You just snorted. "I'll be waiting to be impressed, don't worry."

Katie shot you a mock glare before striding over to the pitch, tossing her jacket aside with a little extra flair. She practically strutted across the grass, glancing over her shoulder at you to make sure you were watching. You knew she was trying to look effortlessly cool, her high ponytail swinging with every step, her gaze steely and focused.

Katie took the ball and started juggling it easily, eyes on you as if to say, "See? Told ya."

Leah snickered from nearby, giving you a sidelong glance. "She's tryin' to look tough, y'know. Just for you."

You crossed your arms, grinning. "Is that so? Well, it's working. She's so intimidating."

Katie shot you a quick glare, though you could see the faint hint of a smirk there. She started running some sprints, dribbling the ball with precision, each touch clean and controlled. You had to admit, she looked brilliant out there, even if she was laying it on a bit thick.

Beth strolled over, crossing her arms as she watched. "Oh, she's putting on quite the show, isn't she?"

You laughed. "I think she's scared I won't believe she's the best player on the pitch."

Katie caught that, of course, and straightened up, chest puffed out as she passed by, tossing you a wink. "Bet ya didn't think ya'd see an athlete like me up close, huh, darlin'?"

"Oh, you're something else," you replied, barely holding back a laugh.

She smirked and turned around, jogging backward as she kept her eyes on you. "Keep watchin', love. This is jus' me warm-up."

She turned back around, dribbling with more confidence, picking up speed as she darted across the pitch. She pulled off a few neat moves, twisting and flicking the ball as if it were nothing, clearly hoping to impress you. You watched, genuinely impressed despite her cocky attitude—she was quick, her movements graceful, and even as she showed off, she kept that sharp focus.

But then it happened.

Katie was charging down the pitch, eyes flickering over to see if you were still watching, when she completely missed the goalpost looming ahead of her. Before anyone could call out, she went barreling right into it, the clang echoing as she smacked face-first against the post. She stumbled back, clutching her forehead, looking stunned and a little dazed.

The whole pitch went silent for a beat before Beth burst into laughter, doubling over, with Leah not far behind. You? You completely lost it. You started laughing so hard you were gasping for breath, clutching your stomach as Katie gave you a halfhearted glare through her embarrassment.

"Oh, my God, Katie!" you wheezed, trying to catch your breath. "Were you too busy showing off to notice the massive goalpost in front of you?"

Katie scowled, her cheeks pink. "It came outta nowhere, alright?" she grumbled, rubbing her forehead as she squinted at the post like it had personally offended her.

Alessia walked over, grinning as she patted Katie on the shoulder. "You really did a number on yourself there. Got a little too into impressing the missus, huh?"

Katie waved her off, muttering something in thick, mumbled Irish, which only made everyone laugh harder.

Leah shook her head, chuckling. "You know, you're supposed to be watchin' the field, not your girlfriend's face."

Katie shot Leah a look, crossing her arms. "Oh, aye, like ye lot wouldn' be doin' the same," she retorted, still glaring at the post as if it had betrayed her.

You walked over, still laughing, and gently touched her cheek. "You alright there, champ? Or do we need to get you checked for a concussion?"

She swatted your hand away, muttering, "Aye, I'm fine. Just... caught me by surprise."

Beth snickered. "Yeah, sure, 'surprised.' I'm surprised you even noticed the ball, the way you were eyein' her over there."

Katie's face went pink, and she muttered under her breath, "Traitors, the lot o' ya."

Finally, Katie huffed and turned to you, a sheepish smile playing on her lips. "Well, are ya impressed?"

You tried to keep a straight face but couldn't help grinning. "Oh, so impressed. That was... definitely something."

Katie gave a small, embarrassed laugh, running a hand through her ponytail. "Alright, alright, I get it. No need ta rub it in, darlin'."

You leaned up, pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. "I think it was adorable, really. And besides, it's nice to know even big, tough Katie has her moments."

She rolled her eyes but finally cracked a grin, looking at you with that familiar, affectionate sparkle in her eyes. "Yer trouble, ya know tha'?"

Leah clapped her hands, smirking. "Alright, come on, lovebirds, save it for after training."

Katie shot her a look. "One more word outta you, and I'll be usin' yer head as me target practice."

Beth snorted, patting Katie on the back. "Maybe focus on the actual target next time, Katie. Just a thought."

Katie shook her head, muttering under her breath, but she was smiling as she took her position back on the field. You gave her a little wave, still grinning as you watched her, and she shot you a look that was half-exasperated, half-amused.

You spent the rest of the session watching as Katie worked with the team, but every so often, she'd glance over, and you'd just give her an exaggerated thumbs-up, unable to resist teasing her a bit.

As training wrapped up, Katie jogged over to you, still trying to look composed, though the bruise was already forming on her forehead.

You raised an eyebrow, fighting back a smirk. "So... want me to drive home, or are you alright?"

Katie just scoffed, tugging you by the hand toward the exit. "Just wait 'til I get ya on the pitch," she grumbled, but there was a playful glint in her eye. "See who's laughin' then."

You leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to her cheek as you whispered, "Can't wait."
