Hopeless

Matt stared at his ceiling feeling hopeless. He looked at his phone and wasn't surprised when it said 5:00 am. He hasn't had a good night's sleep since everything went down between you two which was just over four weeks ago. You posted on Instagram last night which made his attempt at sleep even worse than usual. He was sluggish, tired, and grumpy all the time, and just non-stop beating himself up over everything.

All he could think about was the fact if he had just asked you, his brothers, or Madi about the rumors that one of them could have talked him out of reacting the way he did. But instead of asking, he shut everyone out. And he couldn't get over that.

All he wanted to do was book a flight to New York and apologize over and over again. But he heard you when you said you were having a hard time and he had a bad feeling that showing up would only make things worse. But he was having a hard time too. His brothers were getting really worried about him and the fans were starting to notice that something was off with him. A few hours went by of Matt attempting to sleep before he gave up.

"Did you sleep at all last night?" Nick asked as Matt was slumped at the kitchen table. He shook his head in response. "Matt, maybe you should just talk to her-"

"I can't," He snapped. Nick looked at him sadly but nodded. Chris came up the stairs rather peppy but frowned when he saw the way Matt looked. "I'll be in my room if you need me," He mumbled, pushing past Chris. Nick sighed.

"No sleep again?" Chris asked. Nick nodded. "We have to do something, I'm getting, seriously, worried about him. He's never been this bad,"

"Yeah, yeah. I know," Chris took a deep breath. "I just don't know what to do,"

"What if we called y/n? Told her what was going on?" Nick suggested.

"I don't know. She has exams right now and she is already stressed out..." Chris knew you were going through it. Not as bad as Matt, but you sure as hell weren't taking things lightly. And that on top of school has been a huge challenge for you.

"Yeah, no. You're right. We have to think about her too," Nick agreed.

"Why don't we change our flights and go to Boston early? Maybe that will help him get out of his head," Chris suggested. Nick thought about it for a moment.

"Yeah, that would probably be a great idea. Let's do it,"

Matt finally came out of his room about an hour ago. Nick and Chris waited to approach him, in hopes of not provoking him further. Chris plopped on the couch next to him, sighing when he saw what he was looking at.

"Come on, Matt," Chris held his hand out. "No more looking at her post,"

"But- I just-"

"But nothing. Hand it over," Matt sighed and gave Chris his phone.

"We have a surprise for you."

"I'm not really up for any surprises-"

"Well, too bad. We're going to Boston early," Chris said, getting straight to the point.

"That's not really a surprise," Matt said. Chris rolled his eyes.

"It's hopeless to make you happy," Chris said, throwing his hands in the air.

"Relax, Chris. Listen, Matt, we think this will be good for you. Boston always gets you out of your head. So, when Mom, Dad, and Justin come for Thanksgiving, we're going to go back to Boston with them when they're leaving. Instead of waiting until Christmas," Nick said.

"I'm sure that'll make everything better," He said, dramatically waving his hands.

"Okay, I've had it. Enough with the Mattitude. I know you're having a hard time with this y/n thing but you gotta try to get over it," Chris said.

"That's easy for you to say. She still fucking talks to you," Matt said.

"I wonder why!" Chris said.

"Chris..." Nick tried to stop him.

"No. We've been patient the past few weeks, but you gotta fucking get your head out of your ass. You can't keep beating yourself up over this," Chris said.

"Once again, easy for you to fucking say!" Matt said.

"You fucked up. It's not the first time. You gotta saddle up and get back on your damn horse," Matt and Nick looked at Chris, then at each other. "Okay, not my best analogy! But you get my point!" Matt sighed, still not following whatever Chris was saying. "If you want her back like we all know you do, you gotta figure your shit out before you can even attempt to get back with her,"

"I guess so," Matt said, finally understanding but refusing to fully admit his brother was right.

"So, Boston it is. All of our stuff is mostly pre-filmed up until Christmas anyway, so you'll just get to relax for a bit," Nick said.

"Alright," Matt said, crossing his arms and slumping back on the couch. Chris sighed out of relief, getting up with Nick and starting to head to the kitchen. "Guys..." Nick and Chris paused for a second, turning towards their brother. "Thank you,"
