It had been a very long morning of shopping. Jack had spent a long time, and a lot of money, at the pet store. Then an even longer time at a few small clothes stores. Jay had been interested in clothes and shoes for about....a whole five minutes. Then he'd lost all interest and patients for being forced to change clothes over and over and over.
Jack had learned something very valuable, which had always confused him. Why did so many pets wear pants with elastic waist bands, and shoes with Velcro straps? They looked like children. Jack now believed Velcro and elastic was a god sent for pet's clothing. Towards the end of cloths shopping, if he had had to button every pair of pants or tie every shoe, for Jay to try, he would have lost his patients with the boy a long, long, time ago.
But now Jay was sat in the back seat, in a blue t-shirt with a dinosaur on it, some tan cargo shorts with that wonderful elastic waist band, and some nice, yellow, strappy sandals. Those yellow sandals were Jay's favorite shoes they had looked at.
And yeah, maybe he did look younger. Jack wasn't complaining.Jack was trying to ignore the whining and squirming coming from the back seat. It was well into lunch time, and Jay hadn't had anything sense breakfast, except a few crackers and the cookie he'd gotten from Amy.
"Nnngg Jaaaack!" Jay was acting like he was trying to wiggle out of his harness that had him securely strapped to the seat. The boy was cramped in the back seat. Taking up most of the space beside him in the back seat was a large, card board box, from the pet store.
"We're going to lunch buddy you're okay."
"Out!" Jay presses a hand to the side of the cardboard box and pushes on it, the other pulling at his harness.
"I know I know." Jack has to focus, as traffic moves in bursts of fast and sporadic, and slow and endless. "We're almost to lunch."
"Hungry," Jay pouts. When Jack only nods in response, because he's checking his phone at this long red light, Jay says it louder. "Hungry!"
"Yeah buddy, in a minute." Jack nods before he returns a phone call. He tucks the phone between his shoulder and ear as traffic begins to move again. "Hey Lucy, yeah I'm headed to lunch. Huh?"
"JACK! JAaaccck!" Jay kicks at the back of Jack's seat, trying to get the man's attention.
"No. I'm sorry I can't come in, I'm really busy."
"Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack. Jack." Jay keeps kicking the seat.
"Sorry, good luck." Jack hangs up the phone. "Jay stop that right now." He snaps.
"Ooouut!"
"I can't get you out till we are at the restaurant, now stop it."
"Out NOW!"
"Jay. Do you need a spanking?
"Mmmmnn," Jay's eyes get wide as tugs at his harness as the car comes to a stop again.
"That it? Do we need to go home now with no lunch or new toys so you can have a spanking?" Jack looks over his shoulder at the boy.
"No." Jay looks down at his harness as he tugs at it. "No want."
