The longer he drives the more Kurt is stuck thinking of his apartment. He's not a guy who cares much about lots of space or furnishings. He also liked to do lots of the 'natural' and 'eco-friendly' things that he knows in the back of his mind do not really make much of a difference except on his own conscious. Not to mention his actual hobbies are scouring thrift stores and flea markets, hiking, and trying very hard to grow sunflowers in his apartment.
None of these involved wealth, or fancy ponies, or boutique stores. But what is Percy expecting? Did Percy see the house he was supposed to move into before? Did he know the life he could have lived with a large rich family?
Will he be bitter that he's alone with Kurt in a small apartment?
Kurt is starting to get to know Percy. They spent the night together in the hotel and got breakfast then went to a park before they got on the plane. Percy has been so perfectly behaved and Kurt was finding himself often staring at the beautiful boy. Breeding and pedigree are not something Kurt often thinks about but looking at Percy he saw it in full effect. The white of his hair, the stark dark eyes, and the fine features of his face. Those were careful choices someone made.
Kurt glances back through his rear-view mirror to see Percy. The boy is buckled securely into the back seat and staring out the window with interest.
"Oh, is green." Percy points at houses as they pass rows of colorfully painted old homes. Often the wear and tear of homes is covered up with bright colored paint that hides bad siding and old windows.
"They're pretty huh?" Kurt asks as he keeps his eyes on the road.
"You house green?"
Kurt laughs, "No. My place isn't green. It's brick on the outside.
"Brick is good." Percy decides. "Play yard?"
"Um. No. I don't have a yard. But the courtyard is fun, and we have a park that we will go to often." Kurt chews his lip. He was thankful he had moved last year so that he even had space for Percy. He knew, truly, that there was enough space for Percy and he would get lots of time outside. But he can't help but feel guilty for not living up to his pet's previous quality of life. Jack's apartment was bigger because Jack lived in a cheaper area away from the main city. Where Kurt lived was expensive and trendy, but close to work.
"Beach?"
"The Beach?"
"Cali-for-na. California. Lots of beach."
"Yeah we've got beaches. We can go sometime this week if the weather keeps up. Hey look. This is it." Kurt says as he approaches his apartment.
The complex is in the old industrial side of town. Old ware houses and factories have been turned to store fronts, apartments, large trendy brewery's. Kurt's apartment was the upstairs of a hiking goods store. All the stores in the building have apartment's above them though most of store owners lived in them.
Kurt presses the button that was clipped to his sun visor, opening the heavy black gate to his parking lot and rolls to his assigned spot. "Okay. Here we are. Home." Kurt was getting nervous. Percy hadn't said anything in a few minutes. Looking back, he sees his pet just quietly looking out the window.
"Everything alright Percy?"
"Hard."
"What is hard?" Kurt's anxiety spikes.
"Words. Um." Percy frowns and rubs his hands together in thought. "Big!" He spreads his arms out and looks back to Kurt.
"Oh. No Percy we don't live in the whole building."
