Offroads POV

The Pits were disgusting. The smell was something indescribable. Offroad knew he would be burning the suit he was wearing. The Pits was an arena, of sorts. It was a run-down prison that had not been used in decades. The police in the world he knew worked for whoever had the most money to bribe them with at the given time and they didn't put bad people in these cages, they put innocent people in them mostly lowborne to only have them sold to the highest bidder.

The place was always filled with lowbornes and bastards who simply wanted to make a name for themselves or to line their pockets with the money the highbornes spent here gambling on the fights. Offroad walked through the main area and felt the silence fall over everyone before cheers, catcalls, and downright vulgar things started being screamed at him from every corner.

"I do not know why you insisted on coming here," Ram whispered in his ear as they made their way to the middle of the watching section.

"Because I do not trust anyone Ram you know this," Offroad said with a smile not moving his mouth as he could feel eyes watching him.

"All of this for a lowborne alpha? Just let him die," Ram snarled, causing Offroad to stop in his tracks and spin around to face him.

"And should he have let you die?" Offroad asked with the same snarl Ram had, reminding the man he was also once a lowborne bastard alpha as well. Ram immediately dropped his eyes to the ground understanding the improperness of what had just said.

Ram was the bastard brother to Offroad's first love, Luke, the alpha to whom he was promised per their family's agreement. But Luke wasn't like the normal Highborne alphas. He was kind and sweet, too good for this world and unfortunately, this world knew that. Luke's family was the one the last true blood house besides Offroads. They could trace its lineage back to highbornes for more than 10 generations. Unfortunately for their family, the head, Luke, and Ram's father, Ron, was a vile man. Offroad knew they had more siblings out there somewhere but there was no reason to look there was nothing left for them here. His family had been massacred for their land, money, and power. That was the world they lived in. If you wanted something you took it and if you succeeded you were respected for it if you didn't you were killed.

"I must say this is no place for an omega of your prestage Offroad," someone said and Offroad turned back around and saw Deacon standing there. Harley's legitimate brother. The heir to his family name.

"Oh, I guess you haven't heard the rumors then," Offroad laughed. Deacon was no better than his brother or father. He just did everything with a smile and that seemed to make his vile treachery okay with others.

"I am not one for rumors," Deacon smiled back. "I heard you have a bet with Harley over a lowborne alpha?"

"I thought you said you don't listen to rumors?" Offroad asked.

"But this isn't a rumor is it not?" Deacon laughed at him.

"Well considering I know Harley didn't tell you of this little wager I am going to have to say you are not a man of your word Deacon," Offroad laughed back smiling. Offroad didn't know if he despised Harley or Deacon more. Deacon had been his father's little puppet to trying to get in his good graces to get his approval to marry Offroad but luckily enough his father was very protective of him and had informed Deacon that who Offroad chose to be with after Luke was his choice. That hasn't sat well with Deacon or his father. Though as the years dragged on Offroad's father seemed to be regretting his words.

"I am just curious about the terms," Deacon glared at him. "I know if you win you get the mutt, but if you lose, what does my illegitimate brother stand to gain?"
