Offroad POV
"Will you marry me?" Luke said as Offroad stared at him dumbfounded. The cheers from their families and friends had erupted before Offroad could answer. He just stared at the ring in the box. It was an ugly ring. "Road? Will you marry me?" Luke repeated himself. Offroad looked at everyone there and felt nauseous. They were supposed to let their families know today they were splitting up. Why was he on one knee with a ring? Offroad felt Luke slip the ring on his finger before standing up kissing him and raising his hand in the air as everyone cheered louder.
"Luke?" Offroad finally was able to speak as Luke pulled him close to his side.
"What baby?" Luke answered but didn't even look at him.
"Luke, what are you doing?" Offroad asked as people began to crowd around them.
"I promise I'll explain, just smile, okay baby," Luke said, kissing his forehead.
So Offroad did, he stood there Luke's hand digging into his side so he was unable to escape thanking people as they congratulated them. Offroad had never felt this uncomfortable in his own skin. His father was the last one to come up to them to offer congratulations. He stood there talking to Luke for a moment.
"Son?" His father's voice pulled him from a fog. Offroad looked at him offering a hmm? In acknowledgment. "You okay?" He asked, looking concerned.
"Oh yeah, just tired," Offroad told his father with a smile.
"Luke was saying a summer wedding, but I thought you had like an entire fall/winter thing planned?" His father asked and it made Offroad looked at Luke in confusion. Who was this man?
"Well summer is only a few months away," Luke smiled down at him. Offroad finally snapped to his senses as the anger hit him.
"Excuse us," Offroad smiled to his dad, as he grabbed Luke's hand and dragged him inside his family's home to his bedroom. Locking them in. Offroad immediately pulled off the ring slamming it down on the desk. "The fuck are you doing?"
"Look, I know you're upset but we can work this out," Luke said.
"Luke we want different things in life there is no working that out," Offroad growled.
"If you want kids I'll give you kids, problem solved," Luke said with a smile coming in to hug Offroad who pushed him back.
"No not problem solved Luke and you damn well know it,"
"Whatever it is, we can work it out, you're really going to throw almost 4 years down the drain over some small differences?" Luke asked, looking slightly annoyed.
"Luke, you are my best friend, you know me better than anybody, so you of all people should know that what you are calling small differences are big issues to me," Offroad argued.
"I will not lose you, do you understand me?" Luke growled his face turning into something Offroad had never seen. "It took me a year to convince you to finally date me, and let's not mention the payment of Deacons' family. It's been a wonderful last few years, if changing a few things means I get to keep you, then consider me a changed man."
"You told me you paid off Deacon because you knew how much I hated him?" Offroad questioned. "Are you saying you paid him off to have a right to me?"
"For fuck sake, yes!" Luke half screamed and half laughed. "Deacon didn't care about you running around sleeping with god knows who because who knew you belonged to him at the end of the day," Luke laughed and Offroad had to take a step back at his words. "I wanted you so fucking badly and you wouldn't even look my way until I literally brought you,"
