Offroad POV
Offroad was more excited than he should be as he organized Daous' new clothes on hangers and into the drawers in his closet. Offroad was a neat freak and liked everything to be organized a certain way. When he was cleaning or organizing the world seemed quiet. The fact the alpha had agreed without any complaint was like music to his ears. Offroad was so deep into organizing that he hadn't heard anyone come into the room not until he turned to grab another pack of hangers and saw Daous' mother standing there smiling.
"Oh Jesus, you scared me," Offroad said, clutching his chest.
"Oh, dear I am sorry I called your name twice," His mother chuckled. "You look like you are having a field day,"
"Oh," Offroad felt his face turn red. "I like to organize,"
"No shame in that dear," She smiled at him.
"Did you need something? I am not sure where Daou is," Offroad asked nervously.
"Oh, no I was looking for you to thank you," His mother said, stepping into the closet. "Those sweet boys took me shopping today, and I got to come home to cheesecake!" she exclaimed.
"Oh you don't have to thank me," Offroad smiled at her. She smiled at him and walked towards him holding her arms wide open and pulling him into a hug.
"My dear boy I have so much to thank you for," She said, hugging him tightly. "My son may look all prickly on the outside but I promise you he is all mushy on the inside, but I'm sure he is thankful as well,"
"He has his moments," Offroad laughed, hugging her back quickly before separating.
"I heard you are getting married?" She asked.
"I hope not," Offroad nervously laughed.
"Oh, why not," His mother asked now with a concerned look on her face.
"Having to marry for duty is different than marrying for love, call me old fashioned but I would like to love or at least try to once again," Offroad said, hanging the shirt he had been fiddling with up finally.
"Once again?" She asked, confused.
"Oh I was engaged before he passed away," Offroad informed her.
"Oh dear that is horrible," she gasped, clutching her chest. "You must miss him terribly,"
"Sometimes," Offroad sighed. "I don't know if what he had was love but he was my best friend growing up,"
"Sounds like me and my husband. We were each other's best friend first," She smiled at him. "I'll tell you what, that is where Daou gets his prickliness from," she laughed.
"What was he like?" Offroad asked, turning to face her.
"Stubborn, fussy," she said, rolling her eyes but then a soft smile formed on her face. "Smart, gentle, generous, the right kind of strong, he stood up for what he believed in, and for others,"
"He sounds like how Luke was," Offroad smiled at her but she gave him a puzzled look. "Oh, sorry my ex-fiancée, his name was Luke,"
"Tell me about him," She smiled at him and Offroad felt the tears begin to form in his eyes.
"He was an asshole, to be honest," Offroad laughed. "He never left my side and wouldn't allow me to go anywhere without him, I think he was scared of the world, and I don't blame him," Offroad sighed. "But he cared about others and he was gentle and kind to almost everyone,"
"Almost?" Daou's mother looked at him with a sad look.
"He had moments," Offroad nervously chuckled.
