Kai

One Week, Two Days Later

Friday Afternoon

I'm bouncing my leg up and down nervously as I look around the therapist office. I can't believe I am here. I am feeling very anxious because I don't know how this is going to go. I've never done this before and I don't know what to expect. However, I know I need to go into this with an open mind. Plus I need to be open and honest. I check my phone and I sigh just wishing I could talk to Ayla right now. I know she would be able to calm my nerves. Fuck I miss her so much. I know she blocked me, but I've still been texting every day like she hasn't. I haven't given up on Ayla and I don't know that I will. I will be as patient with her for as long as she needs. I tap to my photos and look at a few she sent me while I was in New York. Damn I miss her pretty ass so much. I want to see her so bad, but I am trying so hard to be patient. It's definitely been hard though. I am snapped from my thoughts, by a female voice calling my name. I look up and see this woman smiling in my direction. I place my phone in my pocket before standing up and walking towards her.

"Kai?," the woman asked politely.

"Yes ma'am," I said while extending my hand out.

"Nice to meet you Kai. I am Doctor Sampson. Please follow me and we can get started," Dr. Sampson said while shaking my hand firmly. I nod my head and I follow behind her to her office.

"Please take a seat," Dr. Sampson said while pointing to the couch. I nod my head and I take a seat as she closes her door and takes a seat in a chair across from me. She grabs a notebook and pen and looks at me and smiles softly.

"So Kai how has your day been so far? How are you?," Dr. Sampson asked.

"Uh...yeah today has been cool. Worked earlier today and now I am here," I said nervously.

"Is this your first therapy session Kai?"

"Yes."

"Ok I understand this may be a bit nerve wrecking for you but we are here to simply talk. I am not here to judge you or any of your experiences ok?"

"Ok thank you."

"Great....now I typically like to start with just a few background questions if that's ok with you?"

"Sure," I said while adjusting in my seat a bit.

"Ok you mentioned you worked earlier today what do you do for work?"

"I work as a sports agent for NFL players."

"Oh wow Kai....that is very impressive! Congratulations on that. How long have you been working as a sports agent and do you enjoy it?"

"I've been doing this job for eight years now and I do really enjoy it. I honestly love seeing the clients I help achieve their dreams of playing with the NFL."

"Nice it's always nice to enjoy that work that you do."

"Yeah."

"If you don't mind can I ask a couple of family questions?," Dr. Sampson asked. I instantly tensed up and I take a deep breath.

"....I noticed you tense up Kai," Dr. Sampson noticed.

"Yeah uh.....I have a younger sister, Skylar. We are only two years apart so we are very close. That's my heart for real."

"Wow you lit up when you just said Skylar's name." I notice Dr. Sampson write down a few things and then look up at me.

"Yeah....me and Skylar were always close. I don't remember a time when we even had disagreements that lasted more than a few hours. We are different, but we still have a really good relationship....and part of the reason I am here is because I don't want to do anything to ruin that," I said somewhat sadly. I can already feel the memories of my dad's death begin to flood my mind.
