As I warmed up for the game, anticipation buzzed in the air. I quickly sent a message to the group chat, knowing the boys were in the second half of their match. Gavi was the first to reply. "We're doing fine, 1-2 winning," he texted. I smiled at his response; even though he was injured, his spirit was still high. He added, "Good luck, Camila!""Thanks! I'll make you proud," I replied, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling that lingered in the back of my mind. Both teams were set to play a friendly match in Italy, and I was excited to showcase my skills. The atmosphere was electric, and the sun bathed the pitch in a golden hue as we prepared for kickoff.
**Kickoff**
The whistle blew, and we were off. From the very first minute, I felt in sync with my teammates. Our passing was fluid, and we quickly gained control of the ball. In the 8th minute, I found myself in a prime position. A well-placed ball from my teammate landed at my feet. I took a touch and launched it toward the goal, watching as it sailed past the goalkeeper and into the net.
"Goal!" I shouted, pumping my fist in the air as my teammates surrounded me in celebration. The adrenaline surged through me, and for a moment, I forgot about everything else.
The game continued with intensity. FCDallas Trinity retaliated quickly, scoring in the 13th minute. Their forward, E. Szymczak, managed to slip through our defense and found the back of the net. The score was now tied, but we refused to let it dampen our spirits.
In the 16th minute, P. Guijarro struck again for our team, putting us ahead once more. The crowd roared, and I could feel the energy in the stadium. We maintained our momentum, pushing forward with every chance.
As the first half drew to a close, C. Pina scored twice, once in the 45+2 minute and again in the 55 minute. The score was now 4-1, and we headed into halftime feeling confident and energized.
**Second Half**
After a brief break, we returned to the field. The second half began, and I was eager to contribute further. The game was fast-paced, and I could see the determination in my teammates' eyes. In the 31st minute, K. Nazareth added another goal, extending our lead to 5-1.
But as the clock ticked on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Perhaps it was the lingering thoughts of Gavi's injury or the intensity of the game. I pushed those thoughts aside and focused on the match.
At the 60-minute mark, I was charging down the wing, ready to intercept a pass, when I collided hard with a defender. The impact knocked me off my feet, and everything went dark. The weird part was that I could still hear. I could hear my teammates shouting, the referee's whistle, and the distant cheers of the crowd, but my vision was completely gone. It was as if I had been plunged into silence while still being aware of the chaos around me.
"Camila! Are you okay?" I heard a teammate's voice, but it felt muffled, like I was underwater. I tried to respond, but no words came out. I could sense the urgency in their voices, the way they rushed to my side, but everything remained a blur.
Time passed in a strange way. I couldn't tell if seconds or minutes had gone by. I felt hands on me, lifting me gently, but I still couldn't see anything. Just the voices of my teammates, filled with concern, echoing in my ears as I drifted in and out of consciousness.
The last thing I remembered before everything faded was the warmth of the sun on my face and the feeling of being surrounded by my team, waiting to see if I would wake up.
