I woke up from a nap feeling disoriented, my phone buzzing incessantly beside me. I squinted at the screen, seeing ten missed calls—three from Ferran, two from Joao, and two from Pedri, but the three that made my heart race were from Coach Romeu.
I quickly dialed him back, my pulse quickening. "Hello?" I said, trying to sound alert.
"Camila! I've been trying to reach you. I have some good news!" His voice was energized, and I felt a flicker of hope.
"I'm sorry, I just woke up from a nap. What is it?" I asked, sitting up straight.
"The test was messed up. We got the new results, and it looks like you'll be back in time for the game on Saturday! But you have to come to training tomorrow."
"Oh my gosh, I'm so happy! Thank you so much!" I exclaimed, a huge smile spreading across my face. "I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Bye, see you tomorrow, Camila," he said, and I hung up, feeling elated.
I jumped out of bed, ready to celebrate this small victory. I left my room to grab something to eat, but as I wandered into the kitchen, I realized no one was home. A wave of loneliness washed over me, but I pushed it aside. I rummaged through the pantry and grabbed a little snack, then turned on the TV to watch *The Notebook*.
As I settled in, the familiar story unfolded, and before I knew it, tears were streaming down my cheeks. The emotions of the past few weeks—frustration, sadness, and now relief—washed over me. I was lost in the film when the door suddenly opened, and I looked up to see all of them standing there, eyes wide in surprise.
"Camila, you're back!" Fermin exclaimed, breaking the spell.
"Yeah," I replied, trying to wipe away my tears quickly.
"We missed you!" Pablo said, stepping forward with a warm smile.
"Yeah, I umm... I'm going to go to bed. Good night," I said, feeling a mix of happiness and exhaustion.
"Goodnight!" they all chorused back, their voices cheerful.
Just then, I heard a soft knock at the door. "Come in, Pedri," I said, knowing it was him even before he stepped through.
"I just came to check on you," he said, his voice low and soothing.
I nodded, feeling a flutter in my stomach. "Well, I'm going to go..."
"No, stay, please," I interrupted, my heart racing at the thought of being alone again.
He hesitated for a moment, then walked in and sat on the edge of my bed.
I tried to get out of bed, but strong arms held me in place. I turned to look at Pedri, who was still fast asleep, a peaceful expression on his face. Something about him made my heart swell, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of affection.
"Pedri," I said softly, but he didn't move at all. I watched him for a moment, taking in the way the morning light danced on his features.
"You can take a pic so you can save it," he mumbled with a smile still lingering on his lips, his eyes still closed.
I chuckled softly. "Well, there's no time for that. I have to get up and go."
"Where are you going?" he asked, his voice still drowsy.
"Just to the store," I said, not wanting to reveal that I had received the green light to return to training.
"Oh, okay. But Camila, I want to take you out for real. I missed you," he said, his sincerity shining through.
"I missed you too, Pedri," I said, leaning in to give him a quick kiss. The warmth of his lips lingered on mine, igniting a spark of excitement inside me.
Reluctantly, I got out of bed and headed to the shower, letting the warm water wash over me and clear my mind. After getting dressed, I felt a sense of determination. Today was the day I would start training again, and I was ready to dive back in.
I made my way to the training ground, scanning my ID as I drove in. The familiar sights and sounds filled me with nostalgia and excitement. I headed to the locker room, changed into my gear, and informed the coach that I would be a little late. He waved it off, saying it was fine.
As I walked out onto the pitch, I could see my teammates training, their laughter and shouts ringing out in the air.
With a burst of energy, I picked up a ball and threw it at my coach.
"Ow! What the heck, Camila?" he yelled, rubbing his arm dramatically.
"Sorry! I need your attention!" I called back, grinning at his surprised expression.
"Camila, you're back!" my teammates shouted, their faces lighting up as they rushed toward me. I was immediately engulfed in a flurry of hugs and high-fives, the warmth of their camaraderie wrapping around me like a blanket.
"Hey, Camila!" Maria said, standing a bit to the side, looking a little unsure but smiling nonetheless.
As we settled back into our routine, we started doing drills, and I felt myself getting into the groove. I was determined to get back in shape and show everyone what I could do.
"Camila!" I heard a familiar voice call out. It was Gavi and Fermin, their faces bright with excitement.
"Umm," was all I could manage.
