Ellie

The world was a blur of flashing lights, stylists adjusting her hair, and makeup artists painting her face. Ellie’s heart pounded as she sat in the makeup chair, barely managing to keep up with the whirlwind around her. People kept calling her “Sabrina,” asking about song choices, album deadlines, and what she thought of the wardrobe selection.

As she was rushed toward a photoshoot set, Ellie’s anxiety surged. How was she supposed to pose like Sabrina Carpenter? What did that even mean? She didn’t even know how she ended up here, and all she could think was that she’d mess everything up.

“Okay, Sabrina,” the photographer said with a smile as the lights flashed to life. “Give me that magic you always bring. Let’s go!”

Ellie tried to steady herself. She took a deep breath, channeling all her energy into remembering the confidence Sabrina always had. She copied the poses she’d seen Sabrina do in magazine shoots and on social media, trying to project the same star quality she admired in her idol.

Each flash felt like a test. She smiled, turned, and did her best impression of a celebrity, hoping her anxiety wasn’t written all over her face. After what felt like an eternity, the photographer finally said, “Great work, Sabrina! You’re always such a natural!”

Ellie let out a sigh of relief, thinking she might survive this after all. But as she was led away for yet another interview, the dread started creeping back in. She didn’t have Sabrina’s answers, her stories, her experiences. She just hoped nobody would ask her anything she couldn’t fake.

Sabrina

Sabrina slowly walked out of Ellie’s bedroom, still trying to process what was going on. As she made her way down a short, cozy hallway, she caught sight of family photos on the walls: Ellie, who was apparently her current self, and a loving, laughing family gathered at what looked like small-town events.

“Ellie! You’re up late, hon. Breakfast’s almost ready,” a woman called out from the kitchen.

Sabrina blinked, suddenly feeling a strange warmth in her chest as she took in the sight of a woman she assumed was Ellie’s mom, standing at the stove and smiling warmly at her. When was the last time someone had made her breakfast? Let alone greeted her with such... familiarity?

“Uh... thanks, Mom,” Sabrina said, feeling a bit of awkwardness as she slipped into her role. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d used that word.

Sabrina sat at the table, trying to piece together clues about this girl whose life she was now living. She glanced at her reflection in the silverware, barely able to believe her current appearance. Ellie Lane. Sabrina recalled seeing Ellie’s name once, she’d sent Sabrina a video cover of her song, one that had caught her attention.

But why on earth would she be in Ellie’s life now? Was this some sort of cosmic prank?

“Big day at school today, right?” her “mom” asked, setting down a plate of pancakes.

Sabrina nodded blankly. School? She hadn’t set foot in a school since she’d finished homeschooling years ago. But she guessed she’d have to manage it if she wanted to keep this up until she could figure out how to get her life back.

Ellie

Ellie could barely believe it when she finally had a moment alone. Sitting in a sleek dressing room, she stared at her reflection, trying to wrap her mind around the fact that this was her life now, or rather, Sabrina’s life. She was living out every fan’s wildest dream, but it was also a terrifying responsibility.

Out of curiosity, she reached for Sabrina’s phone, wondering if she could find any hint of how this had happened. She scrolled through Sabrina’s contacts and nearly gasped at the names. Celebrities, producers, agents, all people Ellie never dreamed she’d ever have access to. But her heart fluttered most when she noticed Sabrina’s recording studio app with her latest unreleased tracks. Could she... try singing one?

She hesitated, realizing that even though she’d dreamed of becoming a singer, she wasn’t sure she could live up to the kind of magic Sabrina could bring.

But just as she started playing around with the app, the door swung open, and a new person burst in.

“There you are, Sabrina! Time for vocal rehearsals,” the assistant said.

Ellie’s stomach dropped. Vocal rehearsals? She’d never performed professionally in her life. She swallowed hard, giving herself a mental pep talk as she followed the assistant out.

She just hoped nobody would notice if she couldn’t hit every note.

Sabrina

At school, Sabrina’s first big challenge was... well, just about everything. Ellie’s friends surrounded her, laughing and chattering about classes and weekend plans. Sabrina tried to keep up, awkwardly nodding and chuckling as they talked about teachers she’d never met and inside jokes she didn’t understand.

When the bell rang, Sabrina shuffled into Ellie’s homeroom class, where she was greeted by the chatter of students and the sound of announcements crackling over the intercom. As she took a seat, she found herself oddly exhilarated. She’d never had a chance to experience this side of life, going to school, hanging out with friends, getting to be a regular teenager.

She caught a glimpse of a boy sitting a few rows ahead, doodling on his notebook and glancing back every now and then. Sabrina smiled, enjoying the unusual feeling of being in a place where nobody knew she was a celebrity.

For the first time in a long time, Sabrina felt invisible...and she kind of liked it.
