The next morning, Jack and Sarah sat across from each other at their usual corner table in a quiet café, the early morning sunlight filtering in through the windows. They were both exhausted from the previous night's discoveries, their minds still reeling from the implications of Kane's "Project Phoenix" and the potential connection to Eleanor. They'd barely slept, and now, in the calm of the café, the reality of their situation started to sink in.

Jack stirred his coffee absentmindedly, his gaze distant. Sarah watched him, noticing the tension in his shoulders, the worry etched across his face. She reached across the table, placing her hand over his.

"Jack," she said softly, her voice breaking through his thoughts. "Talk to me. I can see how much this is weighing on you."

He looked up, meeting her eyes, and felt a pang of guilt. She'd been right there with him through everything, steadfast and unwavering, and yet he hadn't let her in as fully as he should have. There were parts of him that still held back, keeping his fears, his doubts locked away.

"I'm sorry, Sarah," he murmured, his voice rough. "I keep telling myself I'm protecting you by keeping things bottled up, but maybe I'm just afraid. Afraid that if I let you see how much this is getting to me, you'll start to feel what I'm feeling—like it's all slipping out of control."

Sarah's gaze softened, her hand squeezing his. "Jack, I'm already feeling it. I see the risks, the sacrifices we're making. But I'm here because I believe in you and what we're doing. You don't have to carry this alone. We're in this together, remember?"

He managed a small, grateful smile. "I know. But last night—seeing that photo of Eleanor with Kane—made me realize just how deep this goes. I keep wondering, what if she's been protecting him this whole time? What if this entire case is compromised?"

Sarah nodded slowly, her expression pensive. "It's a valid concern, Jack. But we can't jump to conclusions. Eleanor's been supportive, and if there's a connection, it might be more complicated than we think. She may have had ties to him once, but it doesn't mean she's working against us now."

Jack sighed, rubbing his temples. "I keep thinking about all the people Kane's hurt, all the people who've trusted us to bring him to justice. If we lose this case because of a hidden connection, or because Kane's power goes deeper than we ever imagined, it'll all be for nothing."

Sarah leaned in, her voice resolute. "It won't be for nothing, Jack. We've uncovered more than anyone else has ever dared to, and even if this doesn't end the way we want it to, we're shining a light on his empire. People are starting to see him for what he really is. That counts for something."

Jack looked at her, feeling a mix of admiration and warmth. "How do you do it? How do you stay so strong through all of this?"

Sarah's smile was gentle but sad. "I stay strong because I have to, Jack. For you, for me, and for the people we're fighting for. I've learned that sometimes, the only way to keep moving forward is to believe in the purpose behind it all, even when the road gets rough."

She paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "But there's something I need to tell you, too. I'm scared, Jack. I'm scared of what this case is doing to us. I've been trying to hold it together, trying not to let my fear show, but there are moments when I wonder if we'll come out of this the same people we were when we started."

Jack felt his chest tighten, hearing the vulnerability in her voice. He reached across the table, taking both of her hands in his. "Sarah, I don't want this case to tear us apart. I don't want us to lose ourselves in the fight against Kane. But I also know that without you by my side, I wouldn't have made it this far. You keep me grounded, even when everything else feels like it's falling apart."
