The next morning, Jack and Sarah arrived at the DA's office to find Eleanor already in the conference room, her phone pressed tightly to her ear. Her face was a mask of frustration, her free hand gesturing sharply as she argued with whoever was on the other end of the call. Amanda and Leo sat at the table, their expressions grim.

"What's going on?" Jack asked as he entered.

Amanda tilted her head toward Eleanor, her voice low. "She's on the phone with the Deputy Attorney General. Apparently, someone's questioning our investigation—again."

"Questioning how?" Sarah asked, already feeling the familiar weight of bureaucracy closing in.

Leo frowned. "From what I overheard, they're claiming our warrants for the financial records tied to Kane's shell companies were improperly obtained. They're talking about freezing our access and possibly throwing out the evidence."

Jack's jaw tightened as he exchanged a glance with Sarah. "That's impossible. Every warrant we've filed has been by the book."

Eleanor ended the call with a sharp press of a button and let out a frustrated sigh. "Not that it matters. They're claiming procedural errors and threatening an internal review of the case."

Sarah stepped forward. "An internal review? Now? With everything we've uncovered?"

Eleanor nodded, her expression hard. "It's not a coincidence. Kane's allies are pulling strings. They know we're closing in, and they're trying to stall us—or shut us down entirely."

The team sat down to assess the situation, tension hanging thick in the air. Amanda was the first to speak, her voice edged with irritation. "So, let me get this straight. We have enough evidence to implicate Kane, maybe even dismantle his entire operation, and now we're the ones under investigation?"

Eleanor folded her arms. "That's exactly what's happening. They're using the system against us—tying us up in legal red tape while they cover their tracks."

Jack leaned back in his chair, his expression dark. "If they freeze our access to those financial records, it could cripple the case. And if they get the warrants tossed, everything we've built could be inadmissible in court."

Leo looked up from his laptop, his face pale. "It's not just the financial records. They're questioning the chain of custody on the documents Tony gave us. If they find even a minor inconsistency, it could undermine the entire investigation."

Sarah shook her head, disbelief written across her face. "We've done everything by the book. This isn't about actual errors—it's about perception. They're trying to make us look incompetent."

Eleanor nodded. "Exactly. And the more time we spend defending ourselves, the less time we have to focus on Kane."

Despite the mounting pressure, the team refused to back down. Eleanor assigned Jack and Sarah to address the legal challenges head-on, working closely with the office's legal counsel to review the warrants and ensure everything was airtight.

"I'll deal with the Deputy Attorney General," Eleanor said as she handed them a file. "But I need you two to get ahead of this. If they're going to question our methods, we need to be ready to defend every decision we've made."

Jack flipped through the file, his jaw tightening. "We will. But what about the investigation? If we're tied up with this, who's going to keep digging?"

"Amanda and Leo," Eleanor replied. "You two keep working on the Atlas connection. Whatever happens with this review, we need to keep building the case."

Amanda smirked, her tone defiant. "Let them try to slow us down. We're not stopping."

As the day wore on, Jack and Sarah found themselves buried in legal documents, reviewing every step of the investigation to ensure there were no gaps for Kane's allies to exploit. It was tedious, frustrating work, but they knew it was necessary.
