The day after Jack and Sarah's wedding was filled with a warm afterglow of celebration and love. To continue the festivities, Mel had insisted on hosting a casual brunch at her diner for close friends and family. It was her way of thanking the couple for their friendship and to give everyone a chance to unwind after the whirlwind of the ceremony and reception.

The diner was transformed for the occasion, decorated with strings of twinkling lights and vases filled with wildflowers from Mel's own garden. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, pancakes, and bacon filled the air, mingling with the soft hum of laughter and conversation. The atmosphere was lighthearted and welcoming, a perfect continuation of the previous day's magic.

Jack and Sarah arrived arm in arm, both looking relaxed and happy. Sarah wore a simple sundress, her hair loose around her shoulders, while Jack had ditched his usual jacket and tie for a button-down shirt and jeans. The moment they walked in, a cheer erupted from the room.

"Here they are!" Amanda called from her seat near the counter, raising her coffee mug like a trophy. "The couple of the century!"

Jack smirked, his tone dry. "

Let's not exaggerate, Amanda. Pretty sure George and Martha Washington have us beat."

Sarah laughed, nudging him playfully. "Let her have her moment, Jack. You know she's been waiting all morning to roast us."

Amanda grinned mischievously. "Oh, don't worry, Sarah. I have a whole list of material ready to go."

Mel bustled over, a warm smile lighting up her face. "Well, don't just stand there. Come in, sit down! I've got enough food to feed an army—and I expect the two of you to eat more than just cake today."

Jack chuckled. "Thanks, Mel. This is incredible. You didn't have to go to all this trouble."

Mel waved him off. "Of course I did. You two have been through hell and back these past few months. If anyone deserves a little extra love, it's you."

The couple made their way to a table near the center of the room, where Eleanor, Amanda, and a few of their colleagues were already seated. Plates piled high with pancakes and eggs were passed around, and soon the room was filled with the happy clatter of forks and the sound of people enjoying themselves.

Eleanor raised her orange juice glass, her usual no-nonsense demeanor softened by a rare smile. "A toast," she said, her voice commanding just enough to hush the room. "To Jack and Sarah—two of the most dedicated, stubborn, and courageous people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. May your life together be as successful as your partnership in the field."

The room erupted in cheers and laughter, and Jack gave Eleanor a mock bow. "Coming from you, that almost sounds like a compliment."

Eleanor smirked. "Don't push your luck, Mercer."

As the meal continued, Amanda regaled the group with exaggerated stories about Jack and Sarah's early days working together. "I'll never forget the time Jack tried to intimidate a witness by drinking three cups of gas station coffee in a row," she said, grinning. "The poor guy folded before Jack even said a word."

Jack groaned, covering his face with his hand. "Why do you remember these things?"

"Because they're gold," Amanda replied, raising her mug in mock salute. "Also, your caffeine addiction is legendary."

Sarah laughed, leaning into Jack's side. "I don't know what's more impressive—the witness folding or the fact that you survived three cups of that sludge."

Mel chimed in from behind the counter. "I'll make you some real coffee to take home, Jack. Consider it my wedding gift."

Toward the end of the brunch, Mel brought out a surprise: a tiered tray of homemade pastries adorned with a miniature bride and groom topper. "I couldn't let you leave without dessert," she said, placing the tray on the couple's table. "Even if it is only brunch."
