The first months of Jack and Sarah's married life were a blend of familiar routines and surprising discoveries. They had been partners for years in the DA's office, and their lives had often intertwined in ways that felt natural, but sharing a home and building a life together as husband and wife brought a new dynamic—one filled with joys, challenges, and adjustments.

Jack leaned against the counter in their new kitchen, sipping his coffee and watching the morning sun filter through the windows. It had been a month since they moved into the craftsman-style house, and while the boxes were mostly unpacked, they were still learning how to make the space their own.

"Have you seen my tablet?" Sarah asked, stepping into the kitchen in her robe, her hair slightly disheveled from sleep.

Jack raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "You mean the one you left in the living room last night?"

Sarah groaned, grabbing a piece of toast from his plate. "How are you so organized all the time? It's unfair."

"It's a skill," Jack said, smirking. "And maybe just a little bit of survival instinct. You'd lose your head if it wasn't attached."

Sarah rolled her eyes but couldn't help laughing. "You're lucky I love you."

Jack grinned. "I remind myself every day."

Work was a constant in their lives, but they found ways to keep it from encroaching on their personal time. Jack had a habit of reviewing files late into the night, while Sarah often lost herself in research or prepping witnesses for upcoming cases. Now, they made a pact to shut off work once they walked through the front door—a rule that was harder to keep than either had anticipated.

One evening, Sarah caught Jack scrolling through a case file on his tablet while they were supposed to be watching a movie.

"Seriously?" she said, snatching the device from his hands. "We agreed—no work at home."

Jack gave her an apologetic look. "It's just one file. I wanted to double-check something."

Sarah crossed her arms, her expression firm but amused. "You can double-check it tomorrow. Right now, you're supposed to be enjoying The Princess Bride with me."

Jack sighed dramatically, leaning back on the couch. "Fine. But only because it's you."

"Good answer," Sarah said, leaning her head against his shoulder as the movie resumed.

Adjusting to their new home brought its own set of challenges. Jack, who had always lived in minimalist apartments, was unprepared for the sheer amount of "stuff" that came with merging their lives. Sarah, on the other hand, relished the opportunity to decorate, filling the house with cozy touches that made it feel like a home.

"Do we really need all these throw pillows?" Jack asked one afternoon as he unpacked yet another box labeled "Living Room Décor."

Sarah looked up from arranging books on the shelves, a mischievous smile on her face. "Yes. They're for ambiance."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Ambiance? It's a couch, not a photo shoot."

"You'll thank me when you fall asleep on it one day," Sarah teased.

Jack shook his head but couldn't suppress a grin. "If you say so."

Their new routine included small, shared rituals that became the foundation of their life together. Morning coffee on the back porch, Sunday morning hikes with Rex, and Friday night dinners at the neighborhood Italian restaurant became cherished traditions. These moments, though simple, felt like anchors in their otherwise chaotic lives.
