The DA's office was a flurry of motion as the team prepared for the trial of the decade. The walls of the conference room were lined with evidence boards, photos, and timelines—each meticulously arranged to present an airtight case against Richard Kane. Jack and Sarah worked tirelessly alongside their colleagues, ensuring no detail was overlooked. This was their moment, and they couldn't afford even the smallest mistake.
Jack sat at the conference table, surrounded by stacks of files and his laptop, the soft glow of the screen illuminating his furrowed brow. Amanda leaned over his shoulder, scrolling through a list of exhibits they planned to introduce during the trial.
"Exhibit C-17," Amanda said, pointing at the screen. "That's the shipping manifest from the Nevada facility. Are we pairing that with the financial transfer to Phoenix Strategies?"
Jack nodded. "Yes, but we need to include the corresponding document from Royce's account. It's the direct link to Kane's offshore holdings."
Sarah entered the room, holding two cups of coffee. "Here," she said, handing one to Jack. "I figured you could use this."
Jack smirked. "You've read my mind. Again."
Sarah set her coffee down and glanced at the screen. "How's it coming?"
Amanda straightened, her tone confident. "We've got a solid narrative. The financial trail, the intercepted shipment, the whistleblower testimony—it all ties back to Kane. But it's a lot of information. We need to make sure it's clear and concise."
Sarah nodded. "That's where the opening statement comes in. Eleanor's laying the foundation. Once the jury sees the big picture, our evidence will fill in the gaps."
Across the hall, Eleanor was rehearsing her opening statement, her voice sharp and commanding as she addressed an imaginary jury. Leo sat nearby, scribbling notes and occasionally offering suggestions.
"Don't just tell them what Kane did," Leo said, tapping his pen on his notepad. "Show them why it matters. The lives he destroyed, the trust he betrayed—that's what will stick with the jury."
Eleanor paused, considering his words. "You're right. This isn't just about numbers and documents. It's about justice for the people he's hurt."
She adjusted her tone, weaving in stories of victims whose lives had been upended by Kane's greed. A small business owner forced into bankruptcy. A whistleblower who risked everything to expose the truth. The community that had been exploited and left in ruins.
"That's it," Leo said, nodding in approval. "Make them feel it."
Jack and Sarah moved to the witness preparation room, where Tony was nervously flipping through his statement. His hands trembled slightly as he adjusted his tie, his anxiety evident.
"You're doing great," Sarah said, her voice calm and reassuring. "Just remember to stick to the facts. Tell your story the way you told it to us."
Tony exhaled slowly, nodding. "It's just... what if they twist my words? Or make me look like I'm lying?"
Jack sat beside him, his tone firm but encouraging. "They'll try, but the truth is on your side. You've been honest from the beginning, and that's what matters. Stick to that, and you'll be fine."
Tony managed a small smile. "Thanks. I just want to see this through. For the people Kane hurt."
In the tech room, Amanda and Leo were fine-tuning the digital presentation they would use during the trial. Amanda adjusted the timeline on the screen, ensuring each event was aligned with the corresponding evidence.
"Slide three needs more context," Leo said, pointing at the screen. "Add the email excerpt from Jasmine's documents. It connects the contract approval to Kane directly."
