Falling Apart

"So, Jameson isn't as much of a jerk as I thought?" You roll as you land on the roof, joining Silk as she stretches her athletic frame. Your eyes briefly trail her curves behind the lens before you shake your head, clear of the complex impact.

Silk lets a long yawn as she finishes her stretch, looking at you with her mask pulled down. You take off your mask and run your fingers through your hair to push it into a messy style. Her eyes dart around your features, gathering all the little details before she speaks with a slight smirk. "He's got connections in the NYPD, and he's offered to use those connections to help me."

"Maybe Midnight should come out and endorse his podcast then," you offer with a slight smirk of your own, but all she does is roll her eyes teasingly. The setting sun bathed New York in a spectacular glow, dipping everything, even the two spiders on the roof, in a soft tint of orange. "I know that's not why we're here, though. Pokémon Dude?"

She shrugged. "I guess I didn't set him on the straight and narrow. He's gotten himself into something. His daughter was kidnapped and-"

You felt it, too. Below you, your spider senses tingled, and you looked over the edge of the roof after slipping back into your mask and descended with Silk as she concealed her identity, too. Pokémon Dude snapped around and saw you both grounded. "This is all your fault!"

You extended a hand out. "Don't you have anything else better to do?"

He didn't answer with words; instead, he spoke with something much louder: Actions.

A long spiral of flames shot out towards you and Silk, but you dodged it and, in perfect unison, bogged down the Pokémon and closed the distance as his flames sputtered into uselessness. He thrashed for a bit but conceded. He looked at you and shook his head. "All they want is Silk, not you."

  "Who wants me?" Silk demanded.

"Black Cat," he responded. She took my little girl to get to you. She said if you don't hand yourself over, she'll... she'll..."

You highly doubted Black Cat was going to bake the guy's daughter some cookies, but you also know it wasn't a time to quip. This was serious and demanded strict attention not just from Silk but also from you. You and Silk approached Harris Porter as he continued. "Marie... Marie's all I have. I can't lose my little girl-"

"You won't," Silk grabbed his shoulder. "I promise."

It's a dangerous promise for a game neither of you knows how to play appropriately. You've made promises before, promises that carry the same weight as the one Silk just made, and you can't help but feel a shouldn't pinch of nervousness nip at your arm as you pull out of the webs and have him explain more of his job, task, and whatever else he can offer. The longer it goes on, the angrier Silk becomes. However, she decides to make a more intelligent decision than make a promise. She calls her "sidekick" before going to the next area of interest.

As you look at a warehouse that has no guards out front, you gather it's a trap at a glance, and no one disagrees. That's when Spider-Man (the real Spider-Man, not a knockoff kind. This Earth's REAL Spider-Man) shows up.

"Got here fast as I-" he points at Harris Porter. "Wait. Isn't he a bad guy? What was it again? Dragon-Something?"

Harris-mon doesn't humor Peter with a response. He tells the entire circle that time is wearing thin and reminds everyone it's a trap. Spider-Man walks in, arms out as he strides forward. "OF course it is, Admiral Ackbar. Silk, Midnight, can we have a little chat before all the punching and whatnot?"

"What is he doing here?" Spider-Man asked.

"It's his daughter that's in trouble," Silk explained, filling you on the details now too. You had hardly become involved before things unraveled.
