You're doing relatively well, and for the most part, you steadily gain the upper hand. It isn't until Silk gets her hair pulled backward is when you're caught off balance. Her hair-puller tugs hard backward and throws her to the ground. "You will bow before the Goblin King!"

She's thrown to her back. "Not really a bowing kinda gal," she sighs, rolling to her. You bound forward, scooping her into your arms, and run to gather distance. When she's set down, you both regard each other. She was sweating, and you were fairing no better. "Any ideas?"

You look up. Another vent, this moment of not-fighting-everyone has allowed you to spay on a convenient way of escape as long as the fire spout doesn't melt your webs, anyway. Without saying anything, you both shoot your web upward. Silk's webs stick to the vent cover, and she tugs down, ripping it off its screws. Your webs spread inside, landing perfectly on the roof of the ventilation's interior. You grab Silk and rip, and you're joined upward. The force and momentum haul you skyward...ceilingward, and inside a tight space. Silk presses against you as a roar of a fire growls the path you took.

You both exhale in the vent, your breaths being carried down the paths of the metal shaft. "Thanks," Silk sighs and takes a deep breath. "That could have been pretty bad."

"Yeah," you say, wiggling around her to create personal distance. "This is much better."

She laughs, crawling past you down to a dip in the tunnel. "It's too bad we're busy, mm?"

"Isn't my idea cute vacation idea," you crane your neck, feeling the bruises already forming on your back, arms, and legs. "But I'll be sure to remember you like vents."

"You can call me your honey pie once we get this over with," she whispers, the tunnel carrying her voice back to you. "And maybe then we can decide what a better vacation spot would be."

"That's one way to get me moving. I wonder where Shrike went to," you murmur, keeping your eyes downward so you don't stare at Silk's back as you work to an exit.

"Don't know. Don't care. We have investigations to conduct."

Ahead of her, you saw rays of light shooting through the slits of the cover. She slowly opens it and tackles the lone sentry standing guard. His leather, old-school football gear was stripped off him, and she slipped into her slimmer figure after a bit of adjusting, at least.

You land behind her. "What about me?"

"You clearly handle yourself very well," she squints at you, her eyes glowing with amusement. "Besides, I think your dark blue suit blends in a bit better than my central white does."

You look down and see that you do blend in a bit better overall by design. "Fair enough."

With Silk spearheading all forward advancements, you shadow her, almost literally, as you try to nonchalantly pass squads of Goblins. It's not long before you walk into a room that looks like it has importance.

The room of "importance" looks like a library, with rows and rows of stocked shelves of leather-backed books. Silk takes one book and opens it up in the middle. Records of all of the Goblin nation's "recruits." From what you can gather at a glance, they're all runaways., orphans, plucked halfway houses...

"The Goblin King is taking unfortunate kids to fill his ranks..."

"Is that much better than being homeless?" Silk sighs.

"What? Living in an underground fortress? That sounds kind of fun," you say, earning herself a half-lidded glance of annoyance from Silk. You shrug. "Am I wrong?"

"They had my brother here for God-only-knows how long, [Y/N]..."

Your core tightens with embarrassment. "I know... I'm sorry."
