The following days were a blur of quiet desperation. The case had reached a new, more dangerous level, and with every passing hour, Jeonghan and Seungcheol felt themselves being pulled deeper into its web. The psychiatrist's voice still echoed in Jeonghan's mind, that chilling promise of never being free from his past. But now, it wasn't just Jeonghan who was haunted. Seungcheol, too, could sense the walls closing in around them. He could see the change in Jeonghan—his normally calm demeanor was fractured, his eyes often clouded with the weight of memories he couldn't escape. But they couldn't stop now. They had to push forward. They had to face whatever came next, no matter how terrifying it might be.
The first glimmer of progress came when Seungcheol finally tracked down a potential lead—a former colleague of the psychiatrist's who had left the profession under mysterious circumstances. After days of careful investigation, they found a name, an address, and the faintest thread to follow.
"Are you sure about this?" Jeonghan asked, his voice low as they sat across from each other in the dim light of the apartment. The words still felt like a weight on his tongue. "I don't know if I can handle facing him again, Seungcheol. He... he has a way of making everything feel wrong. Of twisting things. Making it feel like it's all my fault."
"We can't stop now," Seungcheol said, his voice steady, even as his own doubts churned beneath the surface. "We'll follow this lead. We'll confront him, and we'll get the answers we need. You don't have to face this past by yourself."
Jeonghan's voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke, the vulnerability in his tone almost too much to bear. "I trust you. But I don't know if I can go through with this."
Seungcheol placed a firm yet gentle hand on Jeonghan's shoulder, his deep voice carrying a warmth that made Jeonghan’s heart skip a beat. "Hannie," he said softly, his eyes locking with Jeonghan’s, "as long as I’m here, you don’t need to worry about anything. I’m with you, always."Jeonghan blinked, surprised by the sincerity in Seungcheol's tone. For a moment, the tension in his chest eased, replaced by a faint flutter he couldn’t quite name.
"We need to go," Seungcheol said after a long pause, his voice steady again. "There's no time to waste. We have to find that man before he finds us."
Jeonghan nodded, his fingers brushing lightly against Seungcheol's hand. Despite the lingering doubt in his chest, there was something in him that was ready to fight. With Seungcheol by his side, maybe they stood a chance.
The night air was cold as they approached the address they had tracked down. The city seemed quieter than usual, the streets bathed in the dim glow of streetlights that flickered ominously as if echoing the uncertainty that hung over them. Jeonghan couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to break, that this moment, this step, would be the point of no return. They had been inching toward this for so long, and now, they were standing at the precipice.
Seungcheol walked at his side, his presence unwavering. His determination was clear in every step he took, but Jeonghan could sense the tension in him, too. The resolve was there, but so was the anxiety, the heavy weight of knowing they were walking into something far more dangerous than they had imagined.
"Are you sure about this?" Jeonghan asked quietly, his breath visible in the chilly air. The words felt strange on his lips, as though he was trying to convince himself as much as Seungcheol.
Seungcheol turned to him, his expression unreadable in the dim light, but his eyes betrayed the flicker of doubt. "I don't think we have much of a choice anymore, do we? We've come this far, Jeonghan. If this lead's the right one, then we're about to get answers."
